If you've got a couple bucks look into a hardware firewall/hub solution. CDN$85 for a nice SMC 4 port 10/100 hub and broadband router for the house - very nice, easy to configure, and automatically shares the internet with DHCP or statically assigned IP addresses.

Sincerely,

-Matt

I used ZoneAlarm for ages but moved on to Norton. Mainly due to it incorporating itself with the rest of the Norton software on this computer, but I'm starting to prefer it as a program.

The Live Update is handy of course. Downloading a full version of Zone Alarm everytime they released a new version started to get on my nerves.

I like Blackice....It stealths all my ports and blocks every attempt (Suspicious) from entering my computer...

Blackice is a pain to configure though. I highly recommend zone alarm.

Norton Personal Firewall is good, but if you want a network firewall for your Cable/DSL i suggest the Linksys Cable/DSL router it has a Linux based firewall built in. It's really nice

I've tried them both and decided on Zone Alarm Pro. Seemed to use less resources and was easy to setup and deal with.

I like ZA Pro. I like that it will block outgoing stuff too. I can't tell you how many times I've been called over to a family member's house who has some worm on their system trying to call home that gets blocked by Zone Alarm.

Come to think of it, I would have more free time if I had installed a firewall that blocked incoming only....hmmmm.

Yes,

One thing i do like about ZA is the outbound filtering, but the computer i use is in my mom and dads room (uugghh) and they w ouldnt understand what all the pop up alerts were, they are computer illiterate (I hope i spelled that right)

BI has stopped some of the most serious attacks you could get......It blocked HTTP hijack attempt and a TCP data change attempt (Someone trying to gain control of the browser,in case you dont know what they are)

BI is very good....I have port 113 completely blocked, both TCP and UDP......(Best way)
