Can anyone advise how heavy a load the following website spec would put on the server detailed below?
170 PHP websites, each hitting on a mySQL database on each page load
20x ASP websites, each hitting on its own Access database on each page load
400k page views per month
50gb data transfer per month
350x POP3 mail accounts
Web/Mail/Databases all running on same server
Dell Core2Duo E7300 (2x2.66Ghz) 2GB RAM 2x160GB SATA2 RAID1
Windows 2003 32-bit
Cisco ASA Firewall
Ideally I think we want the server to be running at 40% capacity to allow room for growth over the next 12-18 months.
Should we be looking at something like this instead?
Dell PowerEdge R410, Quad Core Xeon E5520 2.26 GHz, 1PSU, 4GB 2x 146GB SAS
i think SAS is good for growing site load. else he need to change in feature
Scalability is CRUCIAL to a smart upgrade path. Get a server with a dual socket board, room for double or more the RAM you will start with, and space for 2-4 extra HDD's. You'll thank yourself when it the time comes to grow and you can do so vertically instead of horizontally.
QuadCore (Nehalem) 5504, (dual socket motherboard)
6GB DDR3 (board can take up to 24GB+)
2x146GB 15k SAS Raid-1 (room for 2 more drives - and start with a good raid controller with BBU)
A system like this costs less than $2k to setup and will allow for a TON of growth. :-)
