Nintendo -- Where Are The Good Games?

So, here I am with a Nintendo Wii I purchased last year. It was a tough decision: I wanted the Playstation 3 for Blu-ray, my Wife wanted the Wii for Mario Kart. Now don't get me wrong, I love the controls, the look and feel of the Wii and my Wii is "unlocked" and region-free.

Unfortunately, Nintendo Wii owners are being left out of good games. First it was GTA 4 -- PC, 360, PS3... Wii? Nope. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2... not a chance. What's going on? Now the 'New Super Mario Bros.' for Wii is pretty awesome but when I play it, I want to steal cars (GTA 4) while bombing terrorists (MW2). Mario only jumps so high.

So, what's going on? Is it a controller/port issue? Licensing?

It seems like the Wii has a (much?) younger audience than the PS3 or XBox 360, and that seems to affect the flow of popular games that those in our age bracket desire. Any thoughts from others?

Will has no power (CPU, GPU, RAM) to run the games like Modern Warfare or GTA4. It is "fun" console, not "gamers" console. In our home, only one who every turns it on these days is my wife, she likes Wii Fit.

Oh, and thank you for reminding me that there is X360 out there too. Since PS3 arrived, X360 never got turned back on. I should cancel my son's gold subscription for Xbox Live.

    Well...

I still like Super Mario Bros 3 on NES and Super Mario Kart on SNES more than the newer ones.

Isn't the Nintendo Wii using the same hardware that the gamecube had? The Wii is definitely just a "for everyone" console if that makes any sense.

Nintendo DS only had 5 games that were worth my time. I sold it and never came back.

Wii is a everyone console but I do not want to use a remote. I am not watching tv! I am playing a game console!

XBox 360 is the best system in my opinion and you should try it if you have not!

You could just buy all 3 consoles and not worry about anything!

We love our Wii, although it's true that the kids play it more than the adults. I think it's a fantastic console. It brings a huge sense of realism and is full of fun and innovation. We also have a PS3 and 2 360's - the 360 is by far the most played in the household (hence why we have 2, because my boyfriend & I fought over it), but we have the most games for the 360 so it's expected to be played more. The console debate is really silly because it pretty much depends on what a particular person is looking for.

If you're looking for games where all you do is kill things and steal cars, then clearly the Wii was a bad choice. Since when in the history of Nintendo has that been the direction of their consoles? I love role-playing games and games with good/lengthy story lines, so Nintendo is a good fit for me and always has been -- but so has the 360 with games like Oblivion, Blue Dragon, Fallout 3, etc.

All I've seen from the PS3 is a crappy game library for my tastes. None of the games really appeal to me. Any of them that do, I'd play on my 360 instead, because I'm an achievement wh0re. When my boyfriend bought it, he called and asked if I wanted him to rent anything. I scoured Gamespot for 20 or 30 minutes looking for something, and came up with nothing. I told him to surprise me. He brought home Little Big Planet and some other game that I can't even remember. I played it for about 20 minutes and haven't touched the thing since. Oh, except when he brought home the new Katamari... but even then I've barely laid my hands on it. It sucks, because growing up, my brothers & I loved our PS2. The PS3's game library just doesn't compare.

Haha, yes. The Atari. It was before my time, but I hear a lot about it -- even nowadays.

Congrats on hitting 11,000 posts, by the way, The Dude.

That's funny, the comparison to Atari and other "golden age" consoles is usually the reasoning Nintendo fanboys use to counteract the "crap graphics" argument.

I would like a Wii, and I think there's plenty of games on there that are fun for a chuckle... but I'm spoiled on games like GTA4 and Call of Duty - I want an immersive experience to stay glued to it for more than an hour or two, which is about all any Wii game I've tried manages to keep my attention.

In that same respect, I challenge anyone to stay glued to games like Barn Stormer and Space Invaders for more than a couple of hours these days - seriously, I'm all for nostalgia... but most of those games aren't near as fun as I remember them being.

    Wii == Atari

Get a DS lol. Nintendo DS has GTA Chinatown Wars for "some reason" and I think they're porting that to Wii soon. Or they should anyrate lol.
    Nothing here right now.
