I would imagine it means you will receive a private IP address on a shared server. . . What service are you looking at??

A Dedicated IP address may be required if you need to have some sort of special access to your website, like SSL or Anonymous FTP. If you have no special requirements, then a shared IP address will work fine under most conditions.

Even with a shared hosting account you can provide sub domains with multiple IP addresses.

dedicated ip means it is not shared to other clients. you have your ip.
so if shared ip gets black listed because of other clients on server you will be still safe.
you can have ssl on your ip.

It really depends on the host. I've seen hosts that will allow multiple IP
s on a shared account, and others that don't. Allow applies to hosts that will let you host subdomains on your main account, as many people try to get around the one IP allocation by using subdomains to host many other domains. When in doubt, contact the host in question.

Not with cPanel - unless you go into the httpd.conf and the DNS zones and edit them manually (which isn't recommended because a /scripts/rebuildhttpdconf will clear those out and break any custom dedicated IPs created in this fashion).

What would the point be of having multiple IP's BESIDES putting them to a subdomain?

So now I get it. Its like not being on shared hosting because you have your own ip. Like for example, On a shared ip if someone bans a ip off that shared ip and my site is on that ip that baned person will not be able to acess my site. But if im on my own ip and ban him then he can vist the other sties on that server.

Most people need an IP address if you have an SSL secure certificate for your website. Another reason some people might need an IP is for browsing to the site via an IP instead of a host name. A VPS or dedicated server is best for sites that require multiple IP addresses.

True Gregorio, Ip's can also get blacklisted for email abuse, if everyone is sharing the same IP the entire server gets blacklisted.
