Angry Right shift key. What's up with recent laptop designs?

I have an HP dv9700 bought 2 years ago. Right shift key is actually smaller (3/4 size) than regular keys.

This year I bought a Sony Vaio, same thing. A tiny little bit larger than a regular key.

This month, I bought a Dell for my mother-in-law, same... Exactly same size with the regular key.

Extremely annoying, and I seriously consider it as a design flaw. I always end up pressing UP arrow or SLASH

I actually haven't noticed that. My current laptop (Thinkpad T400) has a pretty big right shift key.

Attached image is my HP in the office.
Stupid people tried to jam a 10 key, caused key congestion

Particularly difficult if you are coding in a badly designed language (PHP)

My biggest gripe with laptops is how the location of the Control and Function keys differ. On some laptops it is Control -> Function, and on other laptops it is Function -> Control.

Never have actually owned a laptop with a tiny right shift key. Both of my home and work laptops have a large one. Even the Asus eee netbook has a large one. Might be something to look for in a future purchase.

My laptop keyboard gripe has to do with Lenovo Thinkpads (sorry Orien).

The lower left key should always be CTRL but Lenovo thinks otherwise!

One of the 10000 reasons I hated my ThinkPad T40.

I guess I'll be a Dell, HP or Asus laptop user indefinitely.

No, I completely agree. That was a major nuisance with the keyboard when I first got it. I've since gotten used to it, but there's now a BIOS option to switch around the functions for the keys.

My left one is usually smaller, but just by a small amount. I recently noticed that most of my laptops don't have a CTRL key on the right side. What gives?

Got a older HP pavillion ZV5430us W/ full size keyboard.

One of the main reasons I purchased that model was the Full Keyboard as I fat finger everything.

I have a thinkpad T60 and the keys are normal thank god,

My netbook has key layout problems but that was to be expected... really the layout on the netbook was more intuitive than I had thought it was going to be.

I have an Acer laptop brand and the right shift key seems to be the largest of all keys. So that's fine with me.
