Question ipcheck problem - any suggestion?

Hi all! I got a new VPS account last week and since the first day, I'm receiving a daily email message at 02:00 AM indicating the hostname resolves to a different IP address.

I have 4 dedicated IP address:

    and I'm running:
    cPanel 11.25.0-C40255 - WHM 11.25.0 - X 3.9
CENTOS 5.4 i686 virtuozzo on server

I'm in contact with tech support at my hosting provider, but during this time, I also would like to hear some different opinions about the problem since every day I still get the same ipcheck email message notification from server.

You may wanto to read a conversation with tech support below, describing the problem.

I'm newbie in VPS so please bear with me...
    Many thanks in advance.

every 24 hours I receive the email message below.

I already tried correcting the problem through 'WHM > Add an A entry', but it doesn't work, WHM keeps saying my primary IP address is .178 and not .176 as it should be.

I also tried with SSH, manually modifying the /etc/hosts and it works, until the server,(maybe with a cronjob?) it will modify itself again with the wrong IP address. Every day, the same problem.

    --> /etc/hosts yesterday:

    - - - - - localhost server
    - - - - -

--> /etc/hosts/ today, automatically changed by server?

    - - - - - localhost
    # Auto-generated hostname. Please do not remove this comment. server server
    - - - - -

You may also want to verify the attached file, to view the 'cron <[email protected]> /sccripts/upcp' log, since every day, I receive 2 emails, 1 indicating the cron log and 1 with the problem reported in the email message below:

IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email.
The hostname ( resolves to It should resolve to Please be sure to correct /etc/hosts as well as the 'A' entry in zone file for the domain.

Some are all of these problems can be caused by
/etc/resolv.conf being setup incorrectly. Please check this file if you
    believe everything else is correct.

    You may be able to
automatically correct this problem by using the ' Add an A entry for your
hostname ' under ' Dns Functions ' in your Web Host Manager

You can login to SSH with the folloing login information:

    port: xxx

    Thank you.

We have made the changes in the /etc/hosts file to fix the issue. Please let us know if you are still getting any such alerts in the future.

    Thank you

as I wrote in my previous message, I already did the change on '/ect/hosts' but the problem will arise again tonight at 02:00 AM. Seems like you did not entirely read my message or it is just my impression?

Could you please look at a different solution since modifying '/etc/hosts/' doesn't solve the problem?

    Thank you.

The ipcheck script should be rewriting the hosts file. Check the following and make necessary corrections.

Make sure you have modified the /etc/hosts file correctly.

    Make sure
    dig @localhost +short
    returns the correct IP address.

check the required IP is bound to the active interface with the ifconfig command and check grep ETHDEV /etc/wwwacct.conf returns something like

    ETHDEV interface

interface can be eth0 eth1 or vmnet etc...

If you need a quick fix, you can prevent the modification of the /etc/hosts file with the following command:

    chattr +i /etc/hosts
