Lasik
Soooo..
I'm taking the big step, and stepping up to the 9'th floor of the building I work in for Lasik surgery this Thursday. Thursday can only get here soon enough now after the regiment of eye drops / eyelid scrubs I've been having to do.
Anyone ever had it?
I've already ordered my Braille book....lol

How often do you have to use eyedrops?
I've had some people say they only use eydrops when it's dry outside..others say they use them every couple of hours.

Had it done 8 years ago - very little discomfort - slept the first day after - went from legally blind to 20/20 overnight. It's the best thing I ever did for myself. It won't hurt to use eyedrops - I'd recommend them frequently for awhile. I don't use them at all anymore. Don't use eyedrops with preservatives.

Yeah, that's what the doctor told me..preservative free drops.
I've been using the Optive drops..
My surgery is at 9:30, and I'm taking the rest of the day off to go home and rest. Maybe the valium they give me will help with that.
Hoping to wake up Friday morning 20/20.

I only had to use the eye-drops for about two days I believe. They gave me a schedule on when to take them

What's the typical cost of lasik operations? Pardon my ignorance, but are there any side effects? Or after effects years down the road?
Shooting lasers into eyes.... *shrug* well, frightens me.

Having severs with customer data on it without proper monitoring is like having one night stand without using protections - eventually, there will be an 'oh s**t!' moment.

I paid $2500 and some change for one eye. I went to a more expensive place. Same one as Tiger Woods. Side effects?....not even sure. I cant remember. They are pretty rare. I know seeing halos in the dark was one

This place is $2,200 / eye...however they're having a 2 for 1 offer...lol
AFAIK..some side effects can be: Dry eyes, Halos, Starbursts etc etc.
They won't do it if your pupils are larger than 8.5mm I do believe..as that determines if you will see halos.

I got a military discount to make mine $2500 for one eye. They run a bunch of tests first to see if you qualify

I want these and have for years. I was hoping my dad would chip in for them as a xmas present, just about every year for the last 10 or so years, and but he worries about the side effects later on in life. Although last year one of his secretaries got them(same price some of you listed, about 2.5k an eye and from a quality place) and so far she loves them. Im more than happy to take the risk. Even cost wise it would work out until I get older, good quality contacts are not cheap and their costs add up.

Do the side effects occur in all patients or is it just a possibility?

haha..yeah..I told the guy that was evaluating me..."So Is coupon healthcare really a good idea??" lol..
Daknet..just a possibility.
Some of it depends on how big your pupils are.
Seems like the majority of people I've talked to have had all issues (Dryness, halos) go away after 2 weeks to a few months, if they had any issues. From what my doctor has told me, it will take a couple days to a couple weeks for your vision to be non blurry, but I think that might be a "tell them longer than it really is to cover our bases" type of thing, as most people have said that they woke up the next day with no blurriness.
Like a previous poster said, you go through an eye evaluation where they determine if you will be a good candidate or not.Last edited by cheyenne1212; 11-10-2009 at 10:52 AM.
