Well, i was going to move from ************ shared to HostGator Dedicated.

I too had a recent giant DDoS attack, and lost my domain for quite some time (2+ weeks). ************ didnt try to do anything, like figure out IPs to deny, they simply turned off that domain for 2+weeks! The attack lasted that long, or at least they said, and I think I believe that.

I talked to a hostgator technician and also a security specialist recently and they assured me up and down that they have many ways to mitigate DDoS attacks. I even offered to show them the ddos attack logs, and they said it would be alright. This thread makes me think that might not be true?

With ************ the way i solved it was having my users use sub-domains to access the forums and website. I even continued to do business using those sub-domains instead. Would this option still be doable if i got attacked at hostgator?

So if i have a dedicated server with Hostgater ($219/mo) my account and domain will not be suspended if i get ddos attacked will it?

I was completely impressed with the quickness, proper english, willingnes to help, and intelligence of the Hostgator people when I talked to them. And I've heard almost nothing but great things about them. I would love to do business with them but this DDoS garbage has me seriously stressed out.

I seriously cant believe any punk from anywhere around the world can basically point a virtual gun and destroy your business at any time. F'n Ridiculous. And no, I'm not paying $500+/mo for EXTRA DDoS protection.

It's funny in my last post that web-host-for-life is astricked out but HostGator is not. Maybe WH4Life has such a bad rep it's not allowed to be typed here?

Sorry to hear your experience with them, although I see good reviews on them from some members. Hope you found a new host to move to. Best of luck. =)

While I personally am not a fan of unlimited, HostGator does state limits in their TOS and quite clearly. You cannot expect to consistently use all the server resources for a $6.95 hosting plan.

    Hey,

if you have rare Problems with DDOS I would recommend you Softlayer. I never regreted having my GameServers there, I have been DDOSed à couple of times there and they handled it fast and friendly. Never had problems with them so far...

Well, if the attack gets powerful enough, the IP may have to be null routed, and that goes true for any host. There's only so much network abuse that a host can take. It does go back to what you're paying. You can't expect to survive attacks of any size, when you pay a limited amount of $.

HostGator enabled your account number of times thats really good. ppl here suspend full dedicated servers for whole day even customer is paying them $$$ , try to optimize your db and code as well. VPS would be your ultimate choice.
