Personally if UK2 took down the server after just an email notice, I'd stay well away. They have his phone number, that should have been used.

Good US places would be: The Planet, Gigenet, Softlayer, LiquidWeb, SingleHop

Theres a lot more than that though...

^^ Thanks for the recommendations - I'll check them out.

I'm emailing Ditlev from UK2 to get details on the emails sent.

I'm not sending spam emails so I can only assume the server's been compromised in some way, but I see no signs of tampering.

I can personally recommend Softlayer and Interserver. They both will work with you on any complaint for a resolution. Softlayer has a detailed well written progressive resolution process that gives you a sense of security that your business will not dissapear at any given moment at the realm of some admin or manager on an ego trip.

It's strange that UK2 didn't give you any details about this spam you were sending. I also agree with Ross that 24 hours for something like this is the norm, unless there was a very valid reason or a repeat offense which also should have been included in the abuse notice sent to you. That's how we handle these type of abuse issues.

Hopefully you can get some explanations as to why this has happened.

I am a dedicated server consumer myself. I was talking about a hypothetical situation in which I might be the subject of such action. I was putting myself in your shoes. 2 hours would be inadequate notice especially if it happened to be in the middle of the night

I thought 24 hours was the norm? Why not just suspend an account/server, send e-mail and wait for a reply? 2 hours seems awfully short.
Wonder if this client has a history of the same abuse multiple times? Maybe they could post a domain name.

I must say I think this is very lame...

Major ISP`s have spam problems daily and they don`t get blacklisted our shutdown...

If it was a ddos from a compromised server 2 hours our less would be ok as a time-frame but for spam?

    Come on.

That's entirely possible, disgruntled hosting clients usually leave out minor details like that.

    ^^

Nope - I don't spam at all - full stop.

In fact the only emails that are sent from the server are some admin ones for myself - I use aweber for all my optin lists. That way you can be more confident of the delivery rate.
