A man has been beaten to death by a gang of thugs in south London after confronting a thief who stole his girlfriend's Halloween hat.

Ben Gardner, 30, suffered fatal head injuries after he was punched and kicked to the ground in Sutton in the early hours of Sunday morning. [more]

How does one bring cold blooded murderer(s) to justice? When there is nothing one can do to bring the deceased victim back to life.

It's very sad and shows what a sick society we live in that a man's life is worth just a stupid hat - the moral of the story, 'walk away'.

As for those who murdered him 'getting theirs', simply they won't ... he's dead and his loved ones will be in emotional trauma, all they will get (if they are caught), is a few years jail unless some bright lawyer gets them off on a technicality.

The law today protects the guilty, not the victims.

The truth of the matter is that they will not get anything like they deserve. You argue the technicalities if the subject makes you feel so inclined.

Death penalty is only available[but will not be used] for 'High Treason'.
If these people get convicted, they might get 5-7 years, but will be out of there 'open prison' within 24 months, well that's my guess.

Just need to clarify, Sutton is 'south of London' it is Not South London, but is in fact:
Leafy Surrey, one of the 'nicer' home counties.

    It is very sad.

We don't through guns into drunken situations over here, seems a bit risky for everyone about, to even consider it.

It really is sad that this kind of stuff happens everyday somewhere. I can't turn on the news in St. Louis anymore without some story of women being carjacked, or gang rapes or entired families being murdered.

It's sad how some people can't handle some situations.

If only he had a gun they could have beat him and took it and there would be one more criminal in the streets with a gun (btw I do own guns and do carry in bad areas.. but I do understand the flip side also.) When youre outnumbered you can only hope the rest go away after you shoot the first one.. if they outnumber you and take it then youre kind of screwed.

Correction, no Government would agree to such things publicly. Worse things happen on a daily basis all of which are hidden from our line of sight. We only hear of some of the inhumane things that are done to others, we very rarely see them. The news & media does a wonderful job of covering up just about anything that any Government would deem to be a threat to their paycheck.

That said, sad story indeed, but to approach any "gang" after 12AM and not expect more than just a friendly gathering on a dark street is a bit silly.

Why don't you read the thread & links ?

It's the 'hat nappers' that killed the guy who requested that the thieves returned his girlfriends hat.

Basicaly these cowards killed him for standing up to them.

Is Carma when Karma runs over you on the highway?
    [GB ≠ GiB] [MB ≠ MiB] [kB ≠ kiB] [1000 ≠ 1024] [Giga ≠ gram] [Mega ≠ milli] [Kelvin ≠ kilo] [Byte ≠ bit]
There is no millibit. There is no gram-bit. There is no Kelvin-Byte.

    Not since 1964.

Not to be pedantic but that is no longer the case.

The penalty for high treason is life imprisonment and has been since 1998, when the Crime And Disorder Act was introduced. This abolished the death penalty for treason (in any form) along with Piracy which also carried the same sentence.

No crimes within the United Kingdom carry the death sentence, though in tragic cases like this, it makes one wonder whether some should.

    Hmmm.
after a bit of googleing I found this 'clear' picture of the situation:
On 20 May 1998, a free vote during a debate on the Human Rights Bill, MP’s decided by 294 to 136, a 158 majority, to adopt provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights outlawing capital punishment for murder except "in times of war or imminent threat of war." The Bill incorporates the European Convention on Human Rights into British law.

On 31 July 1998, The Criminal Justice Bill removed High Treason and piracy with violence as capital crimes, thus effectively ending capital punishment.
On 27 January 1999. The UK Home Secretary formally signed the 6th protocol of the European Convention of Human Rights in Strasbourg, on behalf of the British government formally abolishing the death penalty in the UK.
    from http://www.stephen-stratford.co.uk/capital_hist.htm

So I'm thinking, in peace time, no capital punishment, full stop.
In times of war or imminent war, capital punishment available[for certain acts].
But [forgive the pun], to execute those capital punishments would be against the law.

I think basicaly I stand corrected thanks to our great MPs selling us out even further to the EU.
