Greetings!
HalfPrice Hosting would like to begin by thanking all of you for
your past and future patronage. The following newsletter
contains important information in regards to your web hosting
account.
HalfPrice Hosting is continuing rapid growth thanks to the
ever-expanding hosting needs of you, our customers. We are
working day and night (literally) to enhance our services to meet
your changing needs, and to improve the level of service that
you are currently receiving.
In the coming weeks you will not only see an increase in the size
of our customer care staff, but you will also see improved network
speed and additional technical support resources being made
available to you via our web site and our customer control panel.
------------------------------------------------
Network Update
------------------------------------------------
Speed of the Network
HalfPrice Hosting customers will see greatly improved network
speed in the coming weeks as AT&T installs additional
high-speed connections.
Installation of a larger Cisco router has been completed and all
technical specs have been issued. All new lines will be in place
and "live" by March 31st with initial connections beginning on
the 20th.
What does this mean for you as a customer?
Speed!!! The addition of these lines will ensure that on average
only 35% of the total available bandwidth to the network will be
used. Expect to see faster response times coinciding with the
installation of these lines.
FTP / FrontPage Upload Issues
As network speed increases, many of you will notice that FTP /
FrontPage upload problems will decrease. Remember that you
need to select either a FTP client or FrontPage exclusively for
uploading your files. Switching back and forth can cause errors
as older information is referenced, rather than the recently
uploaded information.
------------------------------------------------
E-mail Issues
------------------------------------------------
As many of you have noticed, email has become increasingly
unstable over the past weeks. This degradation in performance is
entirely due to the recent attacks our SMTP server has suffered
from individuals who have sent 'spam' through our network.
In addition, we are under increasing pressure from our 'upstream'
providers to stop this unauthorized use of our network.
In order to avoid any potential problems with our providers, we
have joined other large internet providers (AT&T, MindSpring,
Earthlink, etc) in an effort to reduce this activity.
Effective 3/17/2000, you will no longer be able to 'send' mail
through our network. You will still be able to 'receive' email at
mail.yourdomain.com, but will have to configure your email client
(Outlook, Netscape, Eudora, etc) to send mail using your dialup
provider's SMTP server.
This is fast becoming the standard as Internet providers attmept
to curb the unauthorized use of their service networks. We
apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, but making this
change will greatly enhance our network stability and
performance.
We have assembled a web page that contains instructions and
SMTP server list for most of the major providers across the US.
For example, here is an excerpt from MindSpring...
MindSpring Dial up users: To stop spam (unsolicited, bulk e-mail)
and in an effort to be a better Internet neighbor, MindSpring
requires that their customers use only MindSpring servers to send
e-mail when connected to a MindSpring access number. Please
adjust your outgoing servers to reflect there information found

Technical Support News:
------------------------------------------------
When you are initially setting up user accounts in Imail please be
sure to "uncheck list administrator". Please leave "allow web
access" checked. Additionally, Imail administrators who see
"invalid folders" error, please send the user account a test email
message to itself to clear this message.
------------------------------------------------
Web Site Changes
------------------------------------------------
In the coming weeks you will notice a new look for the HalfPrice
Hosting web site. Over the past month we have been working to
develop a site that will be easier to navigate, provide more
detailed information regarding our services, and supply our
customers with an excellent source of archived technical support
information.
The new site will also include our new automated sign up
process that is designed to simplify the account activation
process while also preventing errors and delays in the overall
account activation process.
If you have any questions about the new web site, please let us
know at sales@halfpricehosting.com.
------------------------------------------------
Customer Feedback Encouraged
------------------------------------------------
We want your input! As many of you already know, we are
currently in the process of augmenting our technical support staff,
re-launching our web site, and developing a new and improved
Customer Control Panel.
In developing these functions, we need to know what you want
as a hosting customer. Please let us know if there are additional
features that you are looking for, resources that we can provide
to assist you with the development and maintenance of your web
site. Please send your responses to
feedback@halfpricehosting.com.
We would like to thank you in advance for your input and look
forward to receiving your responses.
