Well do you require an control panel for hosting your website?
I would recommend either cpanel or plesk, and if your on a tight budget you can always try webmin.com or virtualmin.com, free.
And do you have a budget for this VPS you are going to buy?
And since your new to VPS i can highly recommend going with a managed VPS, and when your comfortable remove the management.
Thank you,

If you are going to host non-critical website, you may try a self-manage vps and request support only when needed, that way you will self-learn i think this is what you want.
try going to www.webhostgear.com and reading the how/to on how to do a few simple stuff and see if its something for you.
Hope this helps.

There are companies that will give you as much or little support as you need. I think you should find one of those and try to do everything yourself. If you run into a problem, ask them to explain things to you, but not to do them on your behalf.

The should. In the worst case, they can wipe and reinstall it.

If you get managed VPS or if you can afford to pay for management service, then you will be able to focus on business. And you'll not want to deal with the VPS administration, I almost sure! And this will be good for you.

Maybe you need two accounts, one for running the business and one for you to learn on.
The buiness account can be managed and the learning one can be unmanaged.

Hi,
If you really want to learn things fast take a Self Managed VPS.
Also there is this greaaaaattt.. tool called Google.
I learned many things on doing myself by just typing into Google.
Because all you want to do must have been done before and documented.
