what to do with clients hiding identity

We know that people are concerned about their privacy but some of our clients who ask for dedicated servers lie about everything.
Email is a free mail. ( OK that is understandable)
    Country is wrong.
    IP is proxy
    address is fake.

South Korea is not really a good place for illegal content.

An unfortunate part of the hosting business is how easily customers can be anonymous and how some people can exploit that. Being that you are smart enough to understand how this can be abused, you must protect yourself and your business, by doing the necessary thing of turning down business like this. It will only lead to problems for you and your business even if it looks like a quick sale right now.

Thanks we were thinking about the same thing and sending random snail mail after a few months to make sure they are real. suspend the account and refund only when they verify their address . It seems that is the only way we can protect ourselves.

That would indeed be the best thing to do, but nowadays everybody wants his server NOW, making snailmail almost impossible.

Well, we have several tools that detect proxies and such. However if we get a potential fraud order that trigger a number of traps we will first call the number provided, send an email and request proof of identification and CC or paypal account. Best way is to always call direct. You should also check their domain name and when it was registered if they have one. I deal with primarily dedicated server requests, which is why I often check domain registrations before processing an order. hopefully this is helpful to you

Simple - they are no longer your client

Call them, manually check all orders, check their signup IP if on any RBL/DNSBL, etc.

We have a clause in our TOS that states clients must keep they're
We customized our billing portal to not allow for changing certain information which deals with current clients. New orders with bogus contact info get voided without a thought.

Definitely be careful. Some orders with the indicators you mentioned (e.g. fake address, proxy) can later turn out to be fraudulent in the form of chargebacks.

That's exactly why we void them right off the bat. If the orders legit they shouldn't have a problem submitting the correct info.

Having had to verify in the past myself, I will vouch for the fact that address verification is a hassle.

That said, I have always been willing to do so.

    Talking :( chargebacks

I believe nowadays, Fraud orders and chargebacks became the real problem for all of us
Phone verification, won't give you anything. As now anybody can buy skype phone number, and be in Italy with USA number. So you will call him, but the order still will be fraud.
As to domain name verification, it's pretty good idea. With those who has this domain name. There you will be able to compare Whois of domain with your client info, and email the owner of domain name if that information differs.
The most better protection now, is to ask client to make his First payment via Bank Transfer. I am more then sure that Carder will never and ever pay in that way. He will simply go and try to find other company

But I am more then sure that today, we are simply forced to to do the massive check about each client:
1)Phone verification (you will hear customer voice)
    2)Domain name verification
    3)First payment via Bank transfer
    4)Correct address information

Yes, maybe you will loose 1 good client per month with this, but you will loose at least 10 fraud orders as well.

Good luck to all of us!

We just use Maxmind, a WHMCS addon and it helps prevent fraud a lot!
