I would not sign for a 3 years with webhostingpad (although no direct experience with them). Reasons:
1) overselling (no one can offer unlimited space and bandwith)
2) I would avoid signing for >1 year. What if they collapse at the end of the year? You lose everything and get no refund.

Make sure your type of website conforms with their rules. I suspect that these clauses may be of interest to you:
Quote:
|
Please note disk space is intended for hosting space and not intended for but not limited to online backup, storage device for multimedia content such as, but not limited to, movies, music, photos, or other media.

Quote:
Software Distribution
WebHostingPad Web Hosting and Ecommerce accounts are not configured for the purposes of distributing software and/or multimedia products.
Multimedia Files
Multimedia files are defined as any graphics, audio, and video files. WebHostingPad Web Hosting and Ecommerce accounts are not to be used for the purposes of distributing and storing unusual amounts of multimedia files. Any Web site whose disk space usage for storing multimedia files exceeds 10% of the initial quota setup, in terms of total size or number of files, will be considered to be using an unusual amount of multimedia files. Web Hosting accounts come with a limit of 10,000 files per account. Each block of 10,000 files after the initial 10,000 will incur an additional charge of US $9.95/month.

Additionally, my typical advice is to never pay upfront amounts that you can't afford to lose. So, go ahead only if you have the funds to buy hosting again, if the need arises.
Personally, I think there's already enough feedback to be found about them to make a decision: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php. Try the "search titles only" option to narrow down the search a bit.

Month to month and quarterly are generally best. Never more than a year unless the host has a good reputation for long term commits. Even then I urge people to stick with monthly.

Actually it is
# $4.95/mo. (1 Year)
# $2.75/mo. (2 Years)
# $1.99/mo. (3 Years)
Difference between 1 year cost and 3 year cost is around $12.24 only. It is wise to spend another $12 (at least in my opinion)

That's another 12 dollars you may lose if you find their service is poor. There are so many good hosts out there today that I wouldn't even look twice at an unlimited host that forces you to pay years in advance.

At least WHP will not gain anything keeping servers down. It is more than evident they will not run away after an year. There is no monthly option, so it is wise to go for the 3 years.
Any "Unlimited host" in no way provides any less space or bandwidth than the "limited" hosts for the user actually to use. Unlimited means you can use whatever you like but not hosting files large in size of course. I have seen many Hostmonster accounts using 100GB + space and 1500GB + bandwidth then they disabled the account. But in the first place any 'limited' provider will not provide that space or bandwidth at that cost. So ultimately it is the client who gains. A 500GB Seagate SATA costs here around $45 for normal users buying in singles. And a dual xeon chasis can hold 8 drives (16 TB) easily (if supported by the MB ofcourse).

hmm....whilst i do not doubt WHP are a reputable company....signing up for 3 years for anything leaves you at their mercy should things go tits up.
would you sign up for anything else for 3 years? I wouldn't.
I wouldn't even sign up for 3 years at the Honourable Reverend Bear's bible reading class.
just my honest opinion.

I've never paid 3 years in advance for my cable bill either. I would have been screwed dozens of times over.
Same rules apply in hosting, it's a service. Some services stay good, some better services come out and some services go down hill. Month to month and quarterly are the safest options. But then again that puts you in the same price range as reputable providers that don't bait you in with 2 and 3 year terms. It's a completely different business model though.

I usually sign-up with any web host for a year at max if I trust them. I think 1 year is the best balance between savings and insurance if the company flakes on you.

3 years is just too long considering you haven't even tried them yet.. I don't think that's a very smart move if ever..

What are you planning on hosting with them? It all depends on exactly what you'll be hosting, if you have a small average web site I doubt you will face many issues.
