Just a little 400 dollar machine.. and WITHOUT THINKING - i had him put an amd processor and motherboard in there...

http://www.linux.org/docs/beginner/platforms.html should tell you what you need to know, but to answer your question, AMD in general will run Linux.

Every document on www.redhat.com just kept talking about Intel.. No AMD - so, thanks. Saved me a weeks worth of time of re-ordering stuff

One of the first server boxes I built ran Red Hat Linux. I had no problems with it and AMD. In fact most of my computers I use now (servers and others) have AMD instead of Intel. AMD is completely compatible.

Intel and AMD are both x86 processors. What runs on one will definitely run on the other (Intel would probably want you to believe otherwise though ) In fact many Linux distributions are compatible with x86, RISC, etc where Windows is only compatible with x86 processors.

The 64-bit amd cpu that's being worked on is going to play A LOT friendly with Linux than its Intel counterpart....
