    Something about Burst.net

    Hi all,

I have server from many providers, hetzner, sharktech & burst.

But the worse i found is of burst.net.

I have been with them since 2+ month now, but the quality of service am getting since i order has been not nice.

from the beginging server used to get crash after every 5-6 days then i need ask what happened, and they were never able to provide the reason.

i ignored it as reboot were within 15-30 minutes which is acceptable.

But since last 15 days. server has been crashing every 12-15 hours.

one of the technician said that its hard drive, (oh comeon hard drive has nothing to do with it. i will let you know later why.)

then i asked him to change the hard drive.

First they offered me data recovery package which costs some $$$.

I said ok just put os in new hard drive and attach my old hard drive so that i can take backup.

I asked them why. then they changed the whole machine with everything brand new. and attached my old hard drive

I took backup and after 2 hours its dead again(crashed ).

They never replied me within hour or so after that.

They blamed that old hard drive is causing crash.

alright i asked them to remove old hard drive and what happened? Still crashed and dead for 3 + days now.

you can have a look at whole conversation.

Just make sure whenever you do business with anyone , they should be responsive and they should know what they doing.

My contract will expire on 9th of nov, but i guess my money is already wasted.

    Thank you for reading.

hmm, i just ordered two servers from them. hopefully don't have issues as yours. if your server keep crashing and can't find anything in log files, maybe you should request replace the whole server.

possibly your application has some kind of memory leak.

hmm since the box is changed looks like an network leek maybe, from cable on the network card maybe, or to the main rooter thats why the server is not accesible some times.
did they change the cables, or position of your box to the rooter?

I have one server at burst.net about 6 months.
    Pretty good DC.
One month ago they replace crashed HDD and mount it as a second HDD. So i am able to make backup.

    Thats right,

But how would i know if its network card or cable,

    isn't it their duty?

anyways i did some step myself now after waiting for them for 4 days.

what i did, i turned of acpi at boot

also as a normal user i am checking log messages , whereas they should look into it to find the problem.

    what i find is
NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out

this i believe is due to acpi?

    and

ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready

    which means bad cable right?

but no steps taken yet from their end, i am very patient client.

But their ignorance made me post this

Oct 27 03:43:59 pentium-d kernel: OEM ID: Product ID: APIC at: 0xFEE00000
Oct 27 03:43:59 pentium-d kernel: Setting APIC routing to physical flat
Oct 27 03:43:59 pentium-d kernel: BIOS bug, no explicit IRQ entries, using default mptable. (tell your hw vendor)

    Hi Emilie,

Could not read the image you posted because the print was too small.

Can you tell me the ticket number so I can research this for you?

I do notice there's quite a bit of notes from us. It appears our techs were trying to help, but I don't want to say either way until I see the ticket.

    Thanks.

i'm starting to get what the OP feel.
so i got the new server from burst yesterday.
first problem, wrong network port speed, submitted ticket, took 3+ hours for them to put the port to 100mbps.
second problem, super slow network, download from different location, max is 10kb/s, submitted ticket. 10hours+ still no answer.
    very bad start.

no i have not try calling them, these kind of problem should be very easy to fix and shouldn't require this long time.
finally i got an answer from them and it's useless, asked me to test from different location, which i stated i already did.
why don't they login to the server and check, the IE download window is still running with 10kb/s.

You would receive a much faster update by calling them. Why don't you give it a shot?

finally they fixed the issue by swapping the nic.
hopefully don't need their support again, as it's too slow.
