Not sure where to post this.

    Hey guys,

I had a PSD designed for a public project about 3 months ago, and as of today have parted from that project, the PSD was coded into a XHTML site but isn't put up on any domain and isnt in use. I personally had paid for this PSD to be designed and i own a domain name to go along with it(other domain is in use currently we were going to move it).

Since i paid for the PSD doesn't it make me the rightful owner of the design? It doesn't include a special logo or anything, it just has a header that says "X" on it and it was designed by my designer, logo is currently not affiliated with anyone and it is unique.

This project just personall cost me some money and i want to know if i have the right to sell it as i personally paid for it out of pocket.

Hmm... Did the output work "belong" to you or to the project? On what terms did you personally part with the project? If the output work does belong to the project, would the project authorize you to sell it yourself?

    Guess ill give specific details,

It's not a company, its a gaming community. actual domain is team-keg.net

I was an admin from the beginning and we parted on bad terms, not a fight or anything but simple no one wants me around.

I own two domains knife-edge-gaming.org and knife-edge-gamers.org (i think) and i was the web developer on the project and odviosely am not anymore.

But yeah i paid for the design of the new template and could sell it to re-coup the costs that i now have to pay because i'm not part of them anymore.

Hmm, my first inclination (really really knowing too many details) is to say, "Don't do it."

Just move on and have better designs created.

The idea is i paid for it, so i own it, i can change the KEG letters on the top to say whatever else and sell it because i paid for it.

I'm currently out $75 because of me not being involved

My two cents (yet another question): if I pay for person to create some pictures for my site - would I be the rightfull owner of all copyrights? I mean: I pay for pictures, later I am starting some commerce involving these pictures (like: send SMS, get cool picture for your phone) - should I share with painter or not?
I think, since I paid for it, I should be the rightfull owner of all copyrights?
