US National Emergency Declared (Re: Swine Flu)

Apparently, on Friday, President Obama officially declared Swine Flu a national emergency.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091024/...bama_swine_flu

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33459423...-cold_and_flu/

I'm not exactly sure how or even if this really changes anything for the average person, but figured I would post here and let you all know about it (for those who don't already know). Personally, I do not know a single person who has or had Swine Flu, so this declaration is a bit of a surprise. Hopefully things with the swine flu do not get as bad as this national emergency makes it sound.

Same with me and I hope it stays that way

Did you get the regular (non-H1N1) flu shot?
    What's your budget?

    Seriously, what's your budget?

Can't give out anymore welfare checks to the corporations, well just declare something an emergency so they can make money of it.

Is anyone GETTING the H1N1 vaccine?

My wife and I are extremely unsure of it. We have two little ones and don't want to do the wrong thing. At the moment we're staying clear of it. We both haven't had a normal flu shot in almost 5 years and we haven't been sick...

Nope, I'll take my chances. If a 1/5 of Canada died then I'd be worried and shooing up some vaccine.

My school district decided not to offer the H1N1 to its employees. Instead, they brought in nurses a few weeks ago to administer the normal influenza vaccine.

Two of my own students have had the "swine flu" (and more in the school as a whole), but I am skipping the vaccine for now and hoping for the best. Every student here has recovered 100% from the swine flu, without having received any vaccinations or medications.

I am taking my chances, too. I doubt I am going to get sick.

Our local hospital is seeing 8-9 patients a day with it, and by the sounds of the symptoms, I think I had it a few weeks back, even my son might have as well. Starts with a very sore throat, and then 3 days of feeling like a bus ran you over. Its worse on the run down part than a regular flu, but other than that, its basically the same as regular flu.

I has the potential to be bad, but for most its pretty cut and dry.

I have known a few other people who have had it as well, and they were walking around with masks, seemed a bit odd.

In my 34 years I do not believe I've ever had a flu shot in my life. If I did then it was probably when I was young enough to not remember or know what it was.

Definitely does seem that way. Apparently there was a lot of hype back in 1976 about the swine flu as well.

One thing that does make me curious is what companies will be getting rich off of all this...

That's sort of a contradiction, though. Isn't the government trying to circumvent FDA testing/approval of various ingredients in the vaccines? On one side it might be taking chances if they don't mandate vaccines right away, but on the other side they are taking chances by mandating vaccines which are not fully tested & proven to be safe.

I have never had a flu shot in my life. I've been sick ass hell from flu or the like viruses but always come out of it after the third day and the sniffing lasting for about a week or so.

For the last 10 years usually when I feel something coming on I load up on fresh garlic in food and tons of fresh lemon juice in my tea or lemonade. I don't know if its just in my head but it works for me and most of the time whatever is coming on disappears the next day or just lingers on instead of a full, leave me in bed attack. Your millage may vary...

"Nearly 5,000 people have reportedly died from swine flu since it emerged this year and developed into a global epidemic, the World Health Organization said Friday."

In other news, nearly 2 million die each year from Tuberculosis.

How many of those people were already sick or compromised immune systems vs 100% healthy people?

I bet more people die every year from taking pills for their disease then from the disease itself.

If you have any doubts about taking the Swine Flu vaccine, see this to help you in your decision, especially for your kids.

Wow, that is very, very, interesting. My heart goes out to her. I have never had an influenza vaccination of any sort. I've had the flu once, and it was absolutely miserable. Though, after taking a broader look at things, it seems that the flu wasn't so bad. I definitely do not provide my opinion in guidance. ha. ...Now I am really interested in the viruses, and the vaccinations. ty webdude

I have never had a flu shot and I've never gotten the flu. So I'm not going to bother with the vaccination. And from what I have heard on the news, there isn't enough of the vaccine as it is.

Think of it this way... the deaths from seasonal flu don't kill healthy teenagers.

Swine flu is leaving the elderly relatively unscathed but killing children and teenagers sometimes in <48h.

Clearly it was concoted by AARP scientists in order to increase the pool of organs to be harvested post mortem.
