2.5" vs 3.5" HDD - what are your thoughts?
Looking at the Supermicro twin series servers and noticed they have a line of twin servers that user 2.5" hard drives.
I'm kind of torn between having one big server hosting both .html and mysql databases or going the twin route with one doing .html and the other doing databases.
Are 2.5" drives as reliable as their big brother 3.5" drives? How do the 2.5" stack up performance wise compared to 3.5" drives?
Yes, and they're faster than the 3.5" drives too. Since the platters are smaller, they use less power to spin, and the drive heads don't have as far to seek.

In my world... My dell 1950's quad cores with the 3.5 sas drives out preform the dl380g5's that spot the 2.5 sas.
the 2.5's over heat like no other and ive replaced about 20 of them over a year. granted we have about 100 of them.
3.5s for sure stay cooler.
