Just Ordered a Server From HiVelocity

I just ordered a box from them and I will post some feedback. I ordered the exact same configuration. They have been quite pleasant to deal with so far. There has been some mild confusion, due to the fact that I ordered the box in the AM hours.

The main concern here will be the performance of the server itself.

It's an unmanaged server, meaning it's YOUR job or your client's job to secure the server. All they have to do make sure the server works and that it's online.

Probably he means he ordered same configuration as on previous provider or something like that?

Well its day 3 and I am sure I will have a long story to tell shortly... I think the outcome might be good but I am waiting to see. So far we have had problems getting my Intel Atom 230 1.6 Ghz online. NIC problems.. So I just called back and I am having my rep "Dave" phone in the upgrade... I am going to upgrade it to the 333 Atom, as I already have one with Cent that seems to be working with minimal random lag The one I have already is with K-Disk, good ppl by the way. Anyway I am waiting to hear back... prob will know something in the morning. I will tell the story from start to finish when all is said and done...

    Take care,

I'm curious what sort of confusion results from ordering a server in the morning?

I think he is speaking about ordering the server in the middle of the night. The only problem that I have found is that the server had to be reloaded to conform to the cPanel control panel suggested partitioning scheme , as cPanel was not on the original order , which I believe was sales rep's mistake.

Well 1st the order was processed without cPanel, then they had to re-image it and then that is when the partitioning problem came about.

    Then came the Nic issue

The Nic works fine under cPanel, but does not under Apache... Strange but true... At one point we had it working under Apache and then cPanel had a problem.... so the story goes on

So I get it setup and it is taking 20 seconds a page to load under Apache - pages that were clocked at 0.03 were getting 20.00

The Nic on the main-board was not compatible with CentOS, they have not written a patch for it yet. We put an Intel 10/100 in but there is no way to disable the on-board Nic.. It caused a conflict... It was the configuration I chose that created the problem.

I did some reading and it looks like all versions of the Atom mainboard are going to have the same similar problem until RedHat and CentOS writes a patch for the Nic.

I just woke up and I am going to have to call HiVelocity and tell them to just put me in a totally different configuration...

Yup, those atoms are just ugly.

For the amount of money that an atom costs, you can buy a core2duo in HV

Right now, from last weekend, hivelocity is working great as 3 months before. No networks problems and LEVEL (3) has been added!

    **** Off *****

Well, if 40 is the new 30 what about for me? 25 is the new 15? that could be amazing !

I've read this thread and am drawing a blank as to its purpose. The @OP to come on and say he ordered a server? Is there more to this story or what?

It seems like a type of live blogging, letting us know how it is going every step of the way. Though I am interested in the NICs not being compatible with CentOS or Redhat, it seems like that should have been discovered before the servers were put into production.
