How to open directories in nginx?

Anyone have step by step instructions for how to make web directories without an index file publicly accessible?

So when you go to you can download the files in that directory through the browser

Or is there a workaround, some easy way to make an index file that lists all the files in that directory. thx

    Options +Indexes
either in .htaccess or the website's virtualhost config (in which case you'd probably want to put it inside a <Directory /path/to/> </Directory> container).

Edit: B....r! Note to self: Must read title! Under nginx I believe the option you want is "autoindex on".
