    I finally did it!

I finally did it. I got off my lazy butt and mounted my 50 inch tv. I had it in a VERY nice $1500 entertainment center, but decided to get more modern, and entertainment centers are kinda out of style now. I'v had this tv for a year now..lol. Anyway, I have NO wires around the tv as you can see. I put in a power outlet where I was mounting it, then the only other cables are a Cat5 and hdmi to my small network room where my dvd and dish network are. Yeah, I have my video and sound going thru cat5

I could have done the dvd player thru the system via the same cat5, but hdmi allows Anynet, which allows me to control the dvd player via the tv itself. If I wanted that, I didnt know anyway to do that part using the cat5.

I'm sure some others here have same or better setups, and I've done more extensive stuff for others, but they shelled out a lot to have ME do it. It makes you really happy to do your own work in your own home though, and do it for under $100. You can make that $150 if you include the supplies I used to paint the room as well.

I'm a typical lazy hubby... I work all day 5 days a week minimum. Getting me to do something like this without getting paid for it is a small miracle in itself - Of course.... I stopped short of doing the theater sound. Figured I could get lazy at this point and just buy modules to make my speakers wireless. Shame though, still need power cables for them

Congrats, which mount did you use? Got a link?

There are so many to choose from, how did you decide which mount to use?
    What's your budget?

    Seriously, what's your budget?

Thats the only wall I have done so far. Plus now that I have that huge entertainment center out of there, havent decided how I want the room arranged. I have a full couch, love seat, and recliner, pretty typical. Those are the nice brown microfiber and super fluffy which the lower wall colors match, but my tables need painting and dont do the room justice, as well as needing different color of curtains. I guess refinishing tables is going to soon be on my todo and "learning" lists. It's already on the honeydo list, but I try to ignore that one.. I used to throw it away, but it always mysteriously showed back up on my desk...

As for mounts, they seem all pretty much the same. I got mine from walmart this one http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...ct_id=11331685 but different brand they dont have online, but looks exactly like that one and swivels. I used these kinds of anchors for it, which I use for all sheetrock mounts. 4 on top and two on bottom. Extremely strong and easy.

Not really. It's a 50 inch plasma. I was in Best Buy the other day, and now you can plug network cat5 into the new ones and surf the net. I wasnt very happy seeing that, mine dont have that ..lol. I can use it as a computer monitor though, but thats not as cool.

Interesting. I would never personally purchase a Plasma they have such a glare. Having one that works with your PC is important. You want to buy a good TV that will last and can be used for many things.

Congratulations on successfully mounting the 50" TV. That can definitely be a challenge at times.

I have a dark living room, so a plasma worked better for me. I went thru renting tvs from Rent-A-Center for a while to decide what works best for me. LCD was good, DLP majorly sucked, and the plasma worked great... so thats what I started buying from Frys.

Yeah forgot to mention that. I'm sure that would have been hilarious video seeing me try to mount it on the bracket by my lonesome. I got it up close and almost high enough, then I'm thinking maybe I should have got help...lol... but I got it.

Lol. Yes. That is definitely a "do not drop the TV" moment.

I think something's wrong with the picture quality. Go ahead and unmount then send to me, I'll fix it and ship it back when I'm finished, no charge.

    Thumbs up

    Hmm Good Job!

Self mounting a 50Inch TV is a hard job as it requires professional alignments or else you will end up mounting it with a slight slope/tilt.

I hope bolts are also properly tighten in the wall or else your NEW 50Inch TV will fall by the vibration caused by woofer.

Oh it's not new, I've had it for over a year. But yes, bolts are tight and bracket is level. Now whether or not my 15 year old house is still level or not... I havent checked

What did you not like about the DLP? I am curious because I am looking into a new TV and my friend has a really nice Samsung DLP and I was considering a similar one.

Wasnt bright enough. They have a lamp in them, and get dimmer over time until they finally go out completely. The one I rented had been rented out once before me for 4 months, and it was already too dim to see well if there was any light around. At the price anyway, although cheaper, if I wanted projection, I would get a ceiling mounted projector

We bought our DLP three years ago, and the picture has been absolutely perfect since day one (it was a Samsung too).

The secret for us was to spend an extra $10 on a small fan and mount it outside of the lamp enclosure, at the back of the TV, facing out. This connects to the stereo and switches on and off with our TV. The extra cooling has done wonders for the lamp, which during the first month would overheat and shut down on occasion.

Our next TV will probably be a Flat Panel, but only because the quality is high enough and the price is low enough that it hardly matters anymore. But quality for price, you can't beat that Samsung DLP we bought. We absolutely love it!

I have that same tv one size bigger. 52inch.... sad to say it died a week ago while playing xbox 360... Comes on but no video, just sound. And pops loud then restarts by itself.

Nice! We just wired our entire house with sound equipment so that you can play music in every room or switch one room off to watch tv in it. Thanks to the calbe guy who did it all, not us, lol.
