I read an opinion somewhere -- I forget where! -- that argued that we as people poison ourselves with alcohol and coffee, among other things.
The core point by the author was: We associate such poisons with "adulthood" and try to help others develop an attraction towards these poisons. We help people first become used to the taste of alcohol or coffee (or smoking).
What do y'all think? Does the author have a point?

I believe in everything must be in moderation (except smoking). I try my best to only have coffee every few days instead of every day, like I did before and it is a big difference! (for instance less headaches, etc).
