We keep them indefinitely, as part of the regular Cpanel backups, though it's rare to have anyone return for the files after a month or three.

Yes if you search in your backups you can get hold of some thing. but it is a headache.

We only keep them a month after which we terminate the account entirely and the backups. We'd rather use the space for paying customers than non paying at that point. It's pretty clear after a month these people are not coming back. I wish if they had no planned on keeping their sites active they'd actually place a cancellation...

Once the account is suspended (after 5 days of non payment) we keep their files for 30 days and then the account is automatically terminated.

We keep their data on our servers for 30 days after their account has been suspended; however, there files may still be placed on our in-house backup servers and then we would be more then gladly to send them a backup. All of our backups if not overwritten are deleted after 180 days if the client is not with us any more. We have a software that will mark the files that have not been over written in the past 180 days for deletion and then a tech will confirm and remove that file if the client is no longer with us.

I think 30 days are enough to keep data in.

A month to 30 days. If the person tells you they are canceling then I would only keep their website for a week. Some people might forget to pay their bill and not get online for a week or a few days.

I don't think it matters much if its 5 days or 500 days:

    Hello,
We terminate all accounts after 30 days, however the problem is the backups. Those must be removed manually as they are kept on a remote server. We normally do this twice a year.

30 days to pay, since a lot of my clients opted to mail in cheques, then non payment suspend after 5 days over the 30 day mail in period, then we'll hold the data for an additional 30 days prior to deleting the entire account data and all.
