MX record in Windows 2003 dedicated

    Hi,

I have 2 dedicated servers: ServerA has the DNS and WebServer and ServerB has the mail server.

I want to add an entry for MX record in serverA in order for the email to resolve to ServerB. How do I do that? Do I have to add a CNAME also?

    Thank you

    Hello,

You need to add two records: One A record pointing to ServerB IP (let's say mail.servera.tld if not already) and one MX record pointed to mail.servera.tld. Sample(I gave it in bind zonefile format, I'm sure you'll be able to do the same using dnsmgmt.msc):

    $ORIGIN servera.tld.
    $TTL 1D
    @ IN SOA blahblahblah
    NS serverA.tld
    MX 10 mail.servera.tld.
    mail A IP.ADDRESS.OF.SERVERB

    With Regards, Mikka
