    Location of the server

    Another newbie question:

Is location of the server important?
Does it influence the loading speed of the forum and SE rankings?

Depends on where your target audience is

It can affect loading speeds but generally the effect is minimal especially if the provider is on a solid network.

It can have an influence. You should probably consider hosting reasonably close to your target audience, unless the price differential is too big.

    and SE rankings?
If you want to target a certain country, get a country code TLD, or host the site in that country. With Google you can also join their Webmaster Tools, and set your site's Geographic target.

I am located in Croatia, and my target audience is in Croatia too.
Right now I use a server, which is located in the USA.

I don't know that you will find a good/reliable provider in Croatia and if you do chances are it will be quite a bit more expensive than one in the US - you could consider UK/European hosting which would likely be a little bit faster/more responsive but realistically I don't think it's going to make much of a difference.

Yes, right now I am trying to find a European hosting solution, but as far as I see they are more expensive then in the US.

Hosting providers are more abundant in the US and as such are cheaper, there are less in the UK/Europe so they tend to cost more and then in Croatia I would only assume there are only a few so they would cost even more

Are you having trouble with your host in the US as-is?

Where in the USA is your current server located?
    What's your budget?

    Seriously, what's your budget?

For Croatia you'd be better off with UK, if you have to go US, you'll be better off on east coast perhaps NY

Google uses both tld and server location for regional search, so yes it does make a difference to your rankings.

Most of the servers of the hosting companies will be at US or UK. And I dont feel any speed difference between them yet...

I do not think it makes a difference, if it does I haven't really seen it yet.

If you are having your site service Croatian clients, then you would be better off hosting on a server closer to Croatia purely for latency issues.

Yes it is important. I'm in the UK so I much rather to have my sites hosted in the UK. For heavy sites such as forums, the lower latency will greatly improve loading times.

Do bear in mind that if you choose a provider in a different location from you, as long as they have quality bandwidth and good routes to your location it should still be relativley fast.

Thank you very much for your advice!
I think I will go with a European hosting.
