Any VPS provider should be good; I'd recommend a Xen based VPS.
Rimuhosting seems to be pretty good on the Java side.

Check the VPS Offers forum, there are some good ones there. Any managed provider should be able to provide a VPS with the above software.

I am looking for JSP capability as well. At the moment, I am down to VPS Right and SuperBytes VPS on my final shortlist.

Tomcat can be easily installed within the cPanel interface so I don't see it being a problem with the majority of managed providers. Remember to ask them first and confirm this.

the site i need to host is a shopping site. I prefer to host it with a big company that is old and has reputation in web hosting.

Please recommend me good/famous vps hosting companies.

I recommend LiquidWeb. They own two data centers and have an excellent reputation. (Est. 1997 -- in internet years that is old.)

I agree, cPanel does have a great integration with Tomcat as far as those options go. It's still necessary to have a basic understanding how the Tomcat works, and I think it's still only applicable up to Tomcat 5.5, but it's much better than the other solutions I've seen.
