Air Raid Siren? The Troops are coming home
Hi!
I live in a small town..and we have this air raid siren that goes off every Saturday. Well..I just tolerated through ten minutes of it..and called the Sheriff to find out what is going on.
"The troops are coming home" was the response. Although this is good news..I find it odd anybody within a couple miles of downtown Elizabethton proper..just had to listen to this for about twenty minutes.
I though CNN.com would have something..but..uhhh..???

Call CNN and ask if they will report about the air card siren The coverage might change the policy!
-mike (who is in favor of such things in principle, but twenty minutes of it?)

I just scanned the news and found nothing about this. Maybe CNN isn't covering it because only the troops at your local military base are coming home? Could just be normal rotations taking place. Your soldiers are coming home while soldiers from other bases are heading out.

When I was a kid they sounded an air raid siren every Friday at noon just to test it. I didn't know they still had them!

I remember I came home one time, before mom was home from work.
It was cloudy outside and a the tornado(air raid siren) went off. I ran and hid in the closet.
I was around 9at the time. Very scary moment.i

Hi!
I don't understand it. Even more bizarre..I grew up here. This was added while I was In Atlanta. I mean...what's the purpose of having something like that if people don't know what they are expected to do?
Well..I daresay the public outcry of this will be quite loud..and they won't think about doing it again anytime soon...hopefully.Bryon L Harvey

Townships put these things in place but often fail at getting this info out to everyone. If your town has a newsletter all that info is in there. Most also have designated Air raid and storm shelters, like the Highschool or some other big building.
I was reading one of the newsletters the other day from my town, amazing the kinda info they put in between Betty Sue's Market Day and the Jaycee's new monument. Most of it is small town political fluff but it's all in there. My IP >> 127.0.0.1 Hack Away!!

Testing Wednesday of each month here.
They won't test if storms are in the forcast or if it is cloudy/storming.
I would be in favor for 30-60 seconds when troops from the local fort/bases arrive home (sunny day). Ten to twenty minutes is a bit much, I agree. I live across the highway from one but at least it wakes me up when required.

99% of the sirens here are used to call in the VFD, if it goes for a long time it means they need more firemen.
