    cPanel or direct admin

Im not trying to start a cPanel/directadmin, which is better all out flame war, im just wondering as cPanel seems to be the prominent one, will people perhaps decide not to host with me because they see directadmin?

cPanel is the most popular one I've come to see over the years. Directadmin you can do a lot with it but with cPanel its more user friendly.

I would suggest going with cPanel more users go with this one then any other control panel on the market. It's easier to manage and control.

we use both. Seems cpanel keeps improving them selves.

Direct admin is more cost affective.

Both recommended but cpanel is more recommended.

Well Both are good in my view. But my choice will be cPanel.

Love it or hate it, all else being equal, you'll get more signups with cPanel.

For personal use, I'd take either any day. Both have basically all the same features/similar addons, and both are very easy to use. However, I prefer cPanel for hosting and a little more in general than Direct Admin. I prefer the look and feel of WHM over Direct Admins administration area. Other than this though, everything else is kind of minor.

Before deciding on one to use, maybe look at a demo of each to see which fits your needs better?

I think people would like it better if they saw Cpanel. It's a more common control panel and with all the features it has people like that better.

I'm not going to enter in this debate other than to say that what you can do on cPanel you can do on DirectAdmin. DA has a more integrated interface with it's 3 user levels (admin/reseller/end-user) and the overall interface is streamlined.

If you want to know more, you can read my many posts about this already on here, but my vote goes for DA.

As much as I do like DirectAdmin (and use it), it needs a major facelift. They haven't touched the design/usability factors in as long as I can remember.

I'd say go with cPanel if you don't care much about resource consumption and like the comforts of performing admin work from a gui.

Not having Cpanel alone will probably drive people away but there should be a small niche market for Directadmin customers, usually those who have already used Cpanel in the past and prefer a simpler control panel.

DA with its terribly outdated theme and primitive file manager isn't going to be a huge selling point. Perhaps you can compete on pricing since DA license is cheaper?

DA and cPanel have pretty much the same feature set. In so many threads we have challenged the cpanel-group to tell us which features cPanel has where DA is lacking and no one ever steps up to the plate.

I use both, but prefer DA and other than the hand-holding that WHM does, the feature set it the same. If I can do it in cPanel, I can do it in DA, just in a different way.

I dont understand what you are talking about guys...you speak like learning how to work with DirectAdmin is just like learning mathematics...believe me that if you will offer only DirectAdmin this will not fear anybody... all the same features and named the same...if a person can read he will bear it...if not....believe me you dont need this customer

DA eating less resources of the server. What your clients mainly need is guaranteed uptime and fast connection, not nice looking interface of control panel

    Good luck!

cPanel seems to be more popular. I find it easier to navigate around and less "technical" for the customers who just want a website. Only other factor though is price. cPanel is more expensive than DA. That's just my opinion though.

C panel is much preferable, it basically rules , with its user friendly features, easy not only for the users but also for Web masters.

I would have to vote for cPanel as well. As some users have said the base features are similar, but as the old saying goes the difference between ordinary in extraordinary is just that little "extra".

The one major short coming of DirectAdmin in comparison to cPanel is its language limitations. cPanel has considerable better 3rd party support as well. This results in 3rd Party apps like RVskin, RVsitebuilder, and Shoutcast. Not to mention cPanel's very user friendly Gaming app. The list goes on and on.

If you are reselling then I would suggest cPanel. But if its just a personal website I would suggest Direct Admin.

Prospects/clients sometimes prefer the familiarity of cPanel, so it could be a potential loss in sales if you did not offer it. That said, does utilizing DirectAdmin allow you to pass any additional savings onto the clients?

    I prefer DirectAdmin myself

  28. #28
I used cPanel for a long time, and then switched to DirectAdmin when I began providing it to clients (because of cost efficiency). I'd always thought DirectAdmin was somewhat lesser, but I actually like it about as much as cPanel... cPanel/WHM feel like they have slightly more features, but I always ran into problems which I haven't had once with DirectAdmin. I feel like DA is a lot easier to use for new customers, too.

    Both are quite distinct.
DA is very simple and cheap. cPanel is GRAND and expensive.
Some people dont like the Icon Interface of cPanel and prefer DA.
But Majority do prefer cPanel and its the biggest selling point.

DA has its own set of followers. Its not as big of a market as cPanel!

Scott... We give the choice to our customers between Cpanel and DA and 80% of them take Cpanel...
But personally, I was using DirectAdmin (because is great and with fewer bugs than cpanel) and now I love kloxo...

80% of them take cPanel because that's all they know. cPanel was first and promoted heavily. Many people think cPanel = web control panel and if you ask them the name of the web control panel, the first one and usually the only one they know is cPanel.

Our business is the other way around were we have 2:1 DA to cPanel accounts and we actively try to convert the cPanel group. Once they switch, they wonder why they didn't switch before!

You're right that many people think that Cpanel= Web control panel or the best control panel...

But honestly, I think that DA and other control panels are better and more powerful than cpanel.
But Ultimately it's customers who decide

    Have a great day Scott

That is true, but by great marketing, we can lead them to their decision. I lay out the comparison and let them choose and for us, they choose DA more often than not.
