San Jose area colo heavily impacted?

I've been looking to colo a couple servers (total of 3U and 10mbit commit) in the San Jose/San Francisco area and calling around I'm getting quotes of around $1500. These quotes seem ridiculous to me--in pretty much every other market I am used to paying a little over a tenth of that--but sales guys just stand firm and say they are impacted.

    Is this truly the case?

Where can I find shared colo for reasonable prices in the San Jose/San Francisco area?

I don't think my requirements are really that out there--I need a mix of level3 and something else other than cogent.

We managed servers for a customer colo'ed in ServerPath facility before. I am not sure about the rate now, but they are in SF. Have you checked them out yet?

That seems kinda high for normal colo. Check out Layer42, I'm sure they can do something way better unless you're looking for some heavy power usage in those 3U.

    Thanks for the replies!

You mean servepath? They quoted me around $1500 a month. If maybe you know of someone selling out of their facility that has more reasonable pricing that would be great.

I don't think so--around [email protected] which seems reasonable to me.

Yes, ServePath. They offer colo service under ColoServe brand. From their colo page http://www.coloserve.com/san_francisco_colocation.html it should not be $1500/month for your requirements.

Anyway, I still have a ColoServe contact. Drop me a PM if you are interested.

Check out ColoCrossing.com in San Jose. I can guarantee you will get a quote half that price.
