    Paypal Issue

I've been a verified Paypal member since 2003 and with 1000's of transactions, I've never had a chargeback or dispute.

Yesterday I sold a set of golf clubs on ebay and paypal have put the full payment from the buyer on hold till either 1/ they leave feedback or 2/ it goes 3 weeks without a dispute.

eBay and PayPal are working together to make it safer than ever to buy on eBay. One of the boldest steps is to identify transactions that pose the greatest risk of fraud and holding the payments from sellers for a period of time to help ensure that the transactions go smoothly.

We'll release the payment for the eBay item if either of the following occurs:

The buyer leaves you positive feedback on eBay.
It's been 21 days since the payment date and you haven't received a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction being held
    Additional hold period

If you receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction, we may hold the payment until the problem is resolved.
This is a fu*king joke on paypal's side IMHO. I take it this is paypal's way of gaining interest in the money.

One look at my paypal record should tell them I'm 100%.

I've sold around 100 things on ebay in the last 4 months and have 100% feedback.

Paypal tell me it's ok to send the items.

    Anybody else encountered this?

I'm actually not feeling too easy about sending off a full set of golf clubs when the money's not in my bank.

Make sure this isn't a pishing. I've heard some scammers send fake paypal payment confirmation emails so the seller will ship the goods, and they get away with it.

100% it's not phishing because the payment is marked as on hold in my paypal account.

I'm a fair guy, but in my honest opinion, this is clearly a rip off on paypal's behalf.

Think of it this way...they have 8 million users....say paypal do this to 10% of their members who sell....for instance 500,000 x 30 average sales = 15,000,000 ...do the maths on the interest paypal will get on 15,000,000 over 3 weeks.

Paypal are screwing their members for extra money on top of the fees they charge.

Paypal is starting to scunner me.

Speak with the guy whom you have sold or planning to sell the product to leave a feedback or cancel the entire order[which you are planning to send] as it wont hurt anyone.

Don't waste time telling to paypal on your background, they are not going to listen to it.

I have heard a lot of non sense about this paypal, but i never thought that OWM would also be one more to add about them in the list.

    Hope this goes on fine.

i emailed ebay support....and said I would like to just refund the guy's money.

i don't want to just refund it from my account because then i'd be out the money, as the money paypal has on hold isn't really in my useable account so i can't refund the money he paid me.

i think this is a bad way to do business.

one thing's for sure, I'll be sending no golf clubs to another country till it gets sorted out.

I'm sick of Paypal and eBay...

I sold a couple of things on eBay which came to a total of 120... I ended up paying 17 worth of fees on eBay and about 8 worth of fees on Paypal.

    it was only for 120

    hardly breaking the bank eh?

over the years I've paid most likely 20k using paypal without dispute, so to hold payment of 120 is bullsh*t in my opinion.

Woah, I had no idea that Paypal was doing those kinds of holds routinely.

A devil's advocate would say that maybe the other side has a history of chargebacks, which only paypal would know, and this is their way of protecting themselves. It would be a pretty easy piece of code to write, and would filter on every transaction.

Why would someone buy something as heavy as golf clubs and pay international shipping on it. Ask yourself.

You might not have to "refund", just tell paypal to reverse the transaction because you refuse to accept it. Same net effect.

the person who bought the clubs has a 100% record on ebay too.

I'll call paypal in the morning and spend 40 minutes on hold....waiting to chat to someone.

Yikes, sorry. Paypal support tends to be fairly hit-or-miss, too, depending on who you speak with!

lmao and how much were they worth that someone from another country would buy them from you. I mean if they once belong to Tiger Woods then that would be a differant story but its still funny.

Well, Scotland *is* the ancestral home of golf. Maybe that holds a special attraction for some buyers.

I had the same issue with paypal. Paypal verified since 2002, and clean record. I called paypal up (this was after postive feedback was left), and they cleared it up.

You may be able to get them to release the funds early by calling them.

They did that to me and held 500.00 for a 1953 Leslie Organ Speaker I sold.

The buyer was cool and as soon as he got the track # he went ahead and left feedback to release the funds.

Paypal is crap but what ya gonna do eh..

Had the same issue, been verified since 2000 and never a problem on my sales, never not paid. I tried the UK Paypal support number - nothing more than an automated revenue collector!
Email exchange eventually got the money released - if it happens again I'll lodge an official complaint, IMO the EU is just waiting to pounce on eBay/Paypal.

Man unfortunately its the very dishonest people in the world that makes financial institutions like paypal take such actions. If a large amount of money is exchanged they will generally hold it until the item is received by the buyer

That seems to be increasingly becoming true. It is disconcerting, though, when it negatively affects perfectly innocent clients with a great track history!
