I offer cpanel hosting (with WHMCS) and appreciate the clients control panel only gives clients direct control over MX records. Is there a methodology that is commonly used to give domain name clients the ability to configure their DNS Settings without me having to go into WHM and do it on their behalf?
Is that ever done? Is it possible to restrict access to just the core DNS settings for the specific domain?
You could make the account a reseller (giving it WHM access) but then make it so they cant do anything in WHM but modify DNS, and maybe a thing here and there. But if their were multiple accounts under the WHM account then there would be no way to make it so you could specifically have access to change only the one domain.
Agree with Z5-Karl . Making account a reseller will let him the possibility to log in WHM control panel (not only in cpanel) and change nameservers manually.
But in case you need to set another nameservers for each account - you'll have to change them manually. In case these are reseller accounts - you can set nameservers for reseller accounts in "Reseller center" item of the WHM .
It looks like there is not really an ideal solution out there for cPanel hosts.
Ideally I'm looking for a solution that is not unlike the control panel with 123-Reg and Heart Internet and other larger suppliers where you can give clients complete freedom to change their DNS settings as they wish.
Why does the cPanel client control panel stop at only offering MX Records?
It looks like it is something that presently has to have human intervention which is a shame.
