What are your shared hosting needs? How much disk space/bandwidth? What's your budget?
    What's your budget?

    Seriously, what's your budget?

I assume you have the full rights to distribute these E_Books?

Do you actually *need* 500gb of space (as in, you have 500gb of files to upload that you want made available) or do you just plan on eventually using that much?

If it's the former then you need to get a dedicated server as suggested and if it's the latter I'd suggest you start with a standard sized (1~25gb depending on price) shared hosting account and upgrade as necessary.

You'll definitely need to look for a dedicated server considering the amount of web space you require. 200 GB space on a shared hosting account is highly unlikely unless you come across an overselling host.

Honestly, I doubt you'd find a host that would let you store that much on a shared plan. I've heard reports of people being able to store large amounts on Dreamhost and Bluehost, but I don't know if they allowed 500GB worth.

    Good luck

There's the number of inodes to consider, and even DH is getting more strict about the type of sites they allow (their explanation of unlimited makes it rather clear that they expect customers to host more or less regular sites.

I think that a dedicated server is the way forward with such disk space usage.

I'm sure you can find a shared host, that doesn't oversell, with 500GB of disk space. It's probably going to cost you $35-$40/month though.

How can I convert a PDF file to a WORD doc. file? pdf ->> word doc

Check it out Acrobat Pro ver 9 - great tool allows you to convert word, excel, to pdf's and also you can go backwards from doc to pdf;s too. http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/

Sometime you may have to tweak the doc's after it be backward converted, seems as it due to the formatting.

On the Server question - for sure I too think you should get a Dedicated server

Open source wise, check out Ghostscript for the .pdfs, it's a fairly powerful tool.

    Hello kasimato,

I would take a look at WholeSaleInternet.com (send them an email asking about any specials they have available). They have a wide variety of dedicated servers available at reasonable prices. If your looking mostly for storage and don't need too much on the cpu end, they may be able to set you up for $40 - $50 a month.

I haven't had to do with the conversion of pdf to doc (or whatever MS like to call it now) for a couple of years but it was pretty awkward then with too much tweaking to be of any value on a large scale. You need to remember you have to deal with two proprietary formats (no matter what Adobe claims) of which neither party is interested to be compatible with the other to keep their monopolies intact.

But the most important question is always: Why would you do that in the first place?
