Trying to muster up the energy for a 5 year review

Reviews just get bigger and more detailed as you go. I've already provided 1 and 3 year reviews, so I knew trying to do a 5 year would be a major pain. I took out uptime monitors, sent in tickets for answer time. Looked for a good script to display some server stats. However, just 4 days befoer the actual date I had some hardware failure. I stick of ram is blown and all in all I'm not positive what else in there is a ticking time bomb. This is m heavy gaming comp so you can imagine the parts I have in it and even though there's 11 different fans in there I can still suffer heat problems.

I was using a usb flash drive to write it up on but during my tear down and rebuild I've somehow misplaced my usb drive. I tried sitting down again and compiling the thing to the level of detail liked here but I found I couldn't get myself into it. I love my host, but knowing after hours of work you have no drafts because they're "safely" tucked away on a flash drive. No real poll asking if I should just try to redo it, this is more me venting. I promised to deliver on the 5 year (I know my host will understand and not care if I don't do it) and feel bad I'm sitting with this attitude against writing it again.

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent in what I like to call "The Dude's Misc Forum".

I can definitely understand the lack of will to start again from scratch. Not to mention you might come across that flash drive 2 days from now.

    That's funny!

Here was me thinking you were having to do a 5 year review for the company you worked for... (which is far more soul destroying - yet very useful once complete!).

Last weekend, I "lost" my USB drive. I knew I had it put it somewhere to keep it safe... but could I remember where! Eventually I remembered where I'd put it, so all was well, but I had a couple of very anxious days.

Well that sucks. Maybe you could make a review in progress thread? Update it when you find your USB drive or get around to redoing the bits you've lost.

It really does suck when you do tonnes of work and it just vanishes before your eyes.

It could be worse... You could have lost all your work to a drive failure and complete backup failure.

I've "lost" my usb drive quite a few times and it always seemed to be buried under a pile of papers that I never remember placing it near.

    Good luck with your review.

True, I'm going to try and find it while trying to rewrite some sections. I need to revise my site's not so cleverly worded testing statement to make it linkable here. I don't wanna get in trouble again like on my one year review.

Good thing it's not home work and I can take my time to reassemble all the pieces without a looming deadline. I know Matt Z (my host) doesn't mind how long I take, he's a cool guy.

Been there, done that, lost and re-found my USB drives.

Now I always encrypt USB drive files first, so at least I am a bit less anxious if I lose the drive!
