I am hoping to get some feedback from y'all on your thoughts about affiliate software and programs. If this isn't suppose to be done here please let me know and i can edit the post or try and get a mod to move it for me. Sorry about any mixup ahead of time.
I am looking to gain insight from more of a merchants point of view. So here comes the questions =)
Are you more interested in running the affiliate program in house? Or do you want it to be managed by the affiliate software company (to the likes of the service cj.com offers)?
If you have previously used an affiliate program, what were some of your favorite features? Some features that you think should be included yet weren't?
If you were to want to run the affiliate program in house, would you be more interested in a one large purchase sum, or monthly payments? Or combine the 2 and allow for smaller setup fee, and smaller monthly fee?
Any other questions or comments associated with affiliate program advertising and software would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much (contact info in sig if wanting to get ahold of me to talk further)

I am going to have to agree with the cj comment. I signed up with shareasale.com for our logo design company and it looks like it was a $200 waste of money and about 2 days of my time signing up, creating offers, and then going around the internet submitting the program. I have had maybe 40 people sign up, but no sales (other than a fraud sale).
This is just an example of what you might be getting into - ticked off customers if you do not have the critical mass of web masters to make your affiliates happy. My second point is that you will have to deal with fraud attempts non stop. This is serious (and often easy) money for hackers so you are going to face the best from all over the world.
If you have the money to bring in the customers and you have the knowledge (or money) to stop fraud, then I think it is a good business to be in. If this is a part time gig, I would say stay clear.
