Just to add, I am willing to buy a vBulletin licence as I have heard that is a far more better and securer forum than phpBB.
The one area of concern is that I want my users to be able to upload 10 files at a time (is this something that can be done on vBulletin)?
If you are serious about the forum and ready to spend some money in developing it then vbulletin is best. If you are still testing out the market and you wan to experiment a bit first I would start with PHPBB and you can then migrate over later. I am capable of working on PHPBB although it has been awhile. It still would be no problem to pick up again.
If you are talking about uploading image files you can set how many you want to allow users to post in a thread/post in vbulletin.
The way it works in vb now is you select manage attachments and a window pops up. In that window you select the file you wan to upload, click upload. Then the attachment filename is shown. You can repeat this as many times as you want, and then close the manage attachments window. This allows you to attach multiple pics to one thread.
Just to let you know a bit about the project. I used to have a very successful forum which ran between 2002-2007 and then I decided to pack it in - but now I want to start it up again.
I used to run the forum on phpBB2 and I was very comfortable with that platform and having migrated the forum to VBulletin in 2006 I honestly did not feel as home as per the admin side of things (way more complex for me).
As for the uploading, I understand how the upload features work on both platforms but what I want is the ability to allow my users to browse and select 10 files for upload and with a single click of the mouse upload the 10 files in one go (so in other words the pop up window would have 10 blank spaces where you can browse and upload and then click submit and upload the 10 files in one go). Is this possible to implement?
So in the windows dialog box when you click "browse" for example you want them to be able to shift click and select multiple files? Or you just want them to be able to have multiple browse buttons, with an "add more files" kind of thing that will add additional browse buttons for more files. Am I understanding this correctly?
