    LimeStoneNetworks [ Intel Core2Quad ]

    http://www.limestonenetworks.com/specials/hof.html

Have you guys checked this out yet?
    It is simply amazing!

    Intel Core2Quad Q9650
    Yorkfield
    8gb DDR2
    1TB SATA2
    10TB
    100 MBPS
    Cores 4 cores
    Speed 3.0GHz
    Core Name Yorkfield
    L1 Cache 256KB
    L2 Cache 12MB
    HT Speed 1333MHz
All just for $159.99. ($40 off) That is just simply amazing.
I purchased one of those when it was for $179.99 and I am still using it. (Original is $199.99)

    These servers are a BEAST!

Just wanted to say that LimeStoneNetworks dominates with the pricing + support and everything else related to Dedicated Server =P

    Keep up the great work.

    How about a detailed review?

I wouldn't call it amazing yet.

Ordered the 159 quad deal over the weekend. Used it for 11 hours and found major problems with the hardware.

    1) Random connection dropping (tcp client resets)
    2) Random crc corruption of downloaded .tar files.
    3) APF has major problems. I have the exact same APF config as 4 other servers all around the world and none have this problem. Enabling APF causes random dropped packets. Random clients that are very close to the server geographic-wise cannot ping/trace the server.
    4) Point 1 and 2 exists when APF is disabled.

Have worked with servers for more than a decade and CRC errors on downloaded tar files usually mean one thing + random tcp resets equals: bad ram, bad nic, or basically bad hardware. HD errors usually do not translate into the network layer.

Another note. They have 2 NICs. ETH0 which is Intel GigE and ETH1 is Realtek (RealCrap). Guess which one they have as the public interface and which one is used for private VLAN? That's right. ETH1 on RealCrap.

With all that said, a hardware swap in currently progress and have been very satisfied with limestone support staff's professionalism.

Hopefully this is just an isolate incident on this new hardware.

I do hope they assign ETH0 to public and avoid RealCrap.

I'm glad to hear we are performing a chassis swap to hopefully resolve these issues. If you prefer to have the public on the onboard interface (we try to do this by default) you can request that without issue.

What is the best way to test this?

Last night i was doing some speed tests, downloading Centos ISO, and i was getting errors on ifconfig as well.

I asked support about that, and response was this:

    RX packets:3269208 errors:9 dropped:194 overruns:9 frame:0
    TX packets:1688924 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0

    Total packets = 3269208
Total packets with error = 212

    Error packets = .6%

It is not uncommon for network communication to engage in congestion
    or packet retransmission.

As you can see these errors are being presented on RX (receiving)
Which means that your server had errors receiving the information
either due to routing congestion or packet errors from the trasmitting
    machine.

Is this true? or i should investigate this more?

    Thanks,

Could any expert please explain this to me if possible?

I think this happens (errors) only when server is doing 30-60+ mbit.

I tried same iso file on ThePlanet and Softlayer server, no error occurred, only on this one at LSN.

    Thank you,

I used limestone for my dedicated server clients who run massive memory hungry wordpress.

But I scare to use LS server as live shared hosting server because of their abuse policy too strict IMHO.

About 6 months ago we rolled out a new abuse handling system that allowed us to get rid of the old procedure outlined in the AUP/TOS. The new system has no fines, and service suspension is a very rare occurrence as long as abuse tickets receive a reply within the first 48 hours. There are multiple shared and free hosts running on our network and the new system was built with exactly these types of usage scenarios in mind. Almost no complaints have been received regarding the new system from any of our client base, including shared and free hosts.

In summary: If you can respond and in most cases resolve abuse tickets we open on your account within 48 hours, you will not have to worry.

My apologize for wrong grammar. I mean currently I'm USING 2 boxes at LS for fellow clients who run massive wordpress website. But I was afraid to use it to host my reseller service because I could not control in realtime which type of website my resellers create.

But thanks for the explaination Ryan. I will consider LS for live reseller service.

You should definitely try them out now, as long as you answer the complaints within a timely manner you won't have any issues. I run a fairly large free host and we see our share of complaints. LSN has been nothing but great about them, I've never been fined or have had a server shut off.

Then maybe you should update the TOS, because I still see the fines listed there.

I will send management a note this weekend to inquire. It may have just been an oversight on our part! (If it was, my apologies.)

I did leave Limestone Networks to become a public school teacher.

But Limestone Networks asked to re-hire me on a part-time basis. You can read about that here.
