Week when all of my hosts gone down...
First... few days ago erupt.com hosting vanished with my money and my sites/datas... only few days later rest of my sites hosted with boxVPS.com vanished (and they still don't respond on high priority support ticket or give an explanation..., complete ignorance) then at same time rapidxen.net (fremont dc) and XenVZ.co.uk (rapidswitch dc) vps's longer downtimes because DC issues, and as big finale after two days of downtime I just got notifications from steadcom.com that because HDD failure my "managed" vps gone, datas can't be recovered... and in short msg they gave me as compensation for my old VPS account new, weaker account (which is also DOWN atm!) for same price disregarding the fact that I had before better package...
While I can't blame rapidxen and XenVZ.co.uk because DC issues, I really don't know what to think about erupt.com which simply run away, what to think about boxVPS.com ignorance and unpreparation from them to even explain me what happened with my datas, and I had somehow bigger expectations from steadcom instead "we're sorry, bla bla, but things can happen, here is your new IP, bye" approach...
All this in some week or so. How can be hosts so unresponsible? Can be this generalized for whole hosting industry nowaday?
SLA? What SLA in hosting industry.. it seems that I should be happy if they even respond me on support ticket. Compensation? Unknown word... "we're sorry" is in most cases best what customer can get for all caused damage. In some not even this.
I really don't know whom to trust in this industry anymore.Last edited by Spirit; 09-28-2009 at 07:27 AM.

Hopefully you can CHOOSE a better host which are happy to help you out.

Yikes, sorry to hear about your experience.
I surely hope that your future provider experiences are better.
As always, continue to research companies on WHT. That helps to avoid some of the issues.

Agreed. This is one of those days/weeks. Just hang in there; it can only get better from here on.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you had a bad week. The same has been happening to us (both as your host and as a customer of DCs).
The RapidSwitch outages did cause a huge stir but they have openly admitted their error and compensated us for the trouble. While we do not provide any SLAs with our VPS, we are passing this compensation back to our customers. RapidSwitch have also committed to 100% uptime which I believe they will do a good job of sticking to.
We also have servers in other locations to mitigate the effect of this, however we trusted RapidSwitch to host the bulk of our own systems and customers.
Please get in contact with us so we can arrange some form of compensation for your loss of service during the RapidSwitch outage.
Also sorry to hear about your data loss troubles with Steadcom. Data loss is a real threat and can happen to anyone. We recently purchased some extra dedicated servers to use for off-site data backup (with LUKS encryption of course) only to have 3 of the 4 drives completely fail within 36 hours! It seems the only way to protect against data loss is to have more off-site backup locations than you can shake a stick at and also having a regular schedule of burning data to DVD / Tape.
We will be launching off-site FTP backups within our control panel soon and are hoping to give away some space for free to all existing customers which should hopefully help you a little.Sean McRobbie - Specialising in virtualisation since 2005.
