Thread: Domain Name

  1. #1

    Domain Name

I am using Business Plus hosting product of IXWebhosting.

When I try to register and add a new domain name to my current hosting product, the company advised me it is not available! But this domain name is indeed available, when I checked in ixwebhosting website or others like who.is.

And the ironic thing is I click to purchase their hosting product again, the host advised me GREAT NEWS, DOMAIN ANME IS AVAILABLE!

Why did this bizarre thing happen?

You will have to contact them directly about this, but usually it is advised to purchase your domain name and hosting from separate companies, as this helps greatly with moving hosts.

    Thanks a lot!

Which company is better to register the domain names. I will take your advice to register now.

    Thanks a lot!

I personally like Go Daddy and name.com as domain name registrars, but there are many excellent registrars.

I'm a Namecheap customer myself, but I've used Godaddy in the past too. Can't say I've had trouble with either.

    I would recommend Dynadot.

    Thanks a lot, all!

Another thing is, since my current hosting offered me two free domain names, if in the future I change to use other hosting company, how should I do with these two domain names? Can I transfer them to new registrar like Go Daddy, name, or Dynadot, so that I pay to this new registrar, instead of my current hosting company?

It depends, if your host registered the domain in your name, or in their name. You will need an EPP code for the transfer.

Contact ixwebhosting regarding your problem. If this continues to be the same, something fishy is going on and I would highly recommend you to search for a new host which doesn't use such tactics to make a sale.

Also, it's best in your own interest to register your domain yourself from a domain registrar. Depending on your host for your domain may prove hazardous in case any issues arise between you and your host.

Domains are < $9 with most registrars like Name.com, NameCheap.com

Contact ixwebhosting and get the EPP code (also knows are domain security code by some hosts/registars). You will need it to transfer your domain to any other registrar. Also, ixwebhosting should remove any domain transfer locks, if any, from your domain, so that the transfer is not declined.

    Hope this helps.

I'll put in a vote for Namecheap! They're not expensive, and the service is good.
