    Angry Cisco Problems

Well, after months of disruption moving servers into a new data centre, our once reliable colocation company has now had nearly 6 hours downtime in the last 16 hours. So much for network redundancy.

    Hello,

I'm guessing you are reffering to the current issues at RapidSwitch North building, and yes they are giving plenty of information.
The reason it is causing such large problems, is becuase its not a hardware problem but a firmware problem resulting in the whole cluster been affected from what I have gathered.

I did not read that the problem was caused by a firmware upgrade; the firmware upgrades were attempts to fix a problem.

Sometimes you cross a hidden threshold, and things fall-apart. And you're left trying to figure-out what broke, and why. Did total MAC addresses learned in any one VLAN go higher than some undocumented limit? Was there a bug, and the box couldn't handle the full 16,000 VLAN logical ports if the box was connected to a different MST region?

When things go to pot, it can be hard to figure out which thing you need to back-out.
