Work on what??? I mean they are welcome to contact the provider and to try and get a backup or the account restored but if you read the threads I linked you will learn that's not likely to happen...

This is why I download a copy of my websites at least once a week to my home computer.

Worst case scenario, I lose a week of data. If any of my sites were REAL important (as in made me money) I'd do it daily!

Never count on someone else to keep your data safe, secure or available. Especially someone like Dreamhost.

If you really value the content on your site and if it is really crucial to you then you will always have a backup on your computer.

I'm sure they would provide you with a backup file of your stuff, especially since they deleted everything. It's still your data and I assume they make backups of some type.

And again, OP has only 4 posts when this was posted.

This is where most people make their mistake... Never assume anything and even when they say that they do it, still maintain your own backups.

Seems they strictly imply they policies. Afterall no host wants illegal material on their server. Its like zero spam tolerance policy.

I don't quite understand what you are saying... Are you saying that DreamHost is going to refund your next year's worth of payment?

    How about your backup?

Dreamhosts are by far the worst company i have ever dealt with, i had a hosting account with them and during my 9 months hosting i got moved to different servers 3 times which was strange as i started on what they insisted to me was a brand new server which would be perfect for streaming media which i previously advised them of prior to opening my account.

    QUOTE Dreamhost Staff:

"You must find hosting elsewhere. As a courtesy I have enabled FTP only access until"

"We are not interested in hosting you any further. You will not be billed in any further way"

At no time have they mentioned a refund for the 3 months hosting i have paid for which they are not providing

Basically we had a very popular video and they immediately shut our account which is not exactly what i would call unlimited like they claim to provide.

My Advice "AVOID DREAMHOST.COM" they are utterly useless.

You were likely using too many system resources by streaming a heavily viewed video. Streaming videos can be very resource intensive and can cause a large drop or halt in performance for other users that are on that server. It doesn't sound like they were trying to not offer you "unlimited", they were just looking out for the well being of their other users.

You might want to avoid any unlimited provider if you don't want the same thing to happen again.

Video streaming using huge source mate.. Unlimited space or bandwidth is only for marketting only.. There's no such thing as unlimited space & bandwidth since it have it's own limit..

WOW That is so amazing, not that you went through this but that people can actually run around doing that and get away with it. If it was me i'd go through all there terms of use making sure they don't have a "notice of deletion" and if they do I don't know but ya got your money back and you learned a lesson never use a company named "Dreamhost."

I have to agree with Dan... With that sort of usage on a shared plan you were just looking for trouble but I don't fault you for that - I fault the marketing that surrounds "unlimited" plans.

It seems that it is a common practice. Even hostgator TOS says the same thing -

"Backups will not be provided for accounts that have been suspended or terminated for any reason unless otherwise agreed to in writing by HostGator."

This is where the "Always maintain your own off-server backups even if your provider says they do it for you!!!" part comes into play.
