reseller with a vps package ?
I know vps plan is not meant to be for hosting sale but sure you can use it for this purpose too, so what is the difference between having a reseller host company using a good vps package or using a reseller package ?

If the reseller is using a vps, he is probably a small one-man show, all alone with his vps. If he is using a reseller plan, he probably is also a one-man show but he is not alone and has a larger company behind him that supplied the reseller package

But a reseller using a VPS will be in control of more than someone with a standard reseller account.
The only thing that the reseller using a vps hasn't got control of is the physical hardware.

If you use cPanel a big difference with VPS and Reseller Hosting is the fact you can't resell "reseller hosting plans" with a Reseller package. You are limited to just cPanel shared hosting accounts in terms of what you can sell. With a VPS you get to create unlimited Reseller accounts (WHM) as well so you in turn you can sell "shared hosting" and "reseller hosting". This does make a difference since it affects what and how you can sell hosting on your website.

This is true. But the "thing" the reseller has no control over will be controlled by the parent company. The end user doesn't care who has control as long as control is performed. The importance is more for the host than the customer. To be honest, though, I don't know who the OP is interested in.

Yes, and with the VPS you can offer master resellers, which makes it so the customer can sell hosting and reseller accounts.

I have 2 accounts that I would like to keep one of them and used it as a reseller host:
- a "VPS" Package with webhostingpad here is the details
http://www.webhostingpad.com/vps-package.html
- a "Reseller" package with hostgator; details here (my plan is Silver):
http://www.hostgator.com/resellers.shtml
in terms of prices; both are the same at $49/month but in terms of types and features, big differences:
- WHP offers 300GB disk space while HG offers only 60GB.
- WHP offers a bandwidth of 3Mbps (I don't really know how much is this!) while HG offers 500GB.
Here I need advice as toward which account should I go, looking at the numbers it seems WHP is much better! but it is VPS in which I am not sure if it is okay to use it as a reseller company!.
Please I need your advice regarding VPS-WHP vs. Reseller-HG ?

Its perfectly fine to use a VPS. But you need to know how to manage and administer a server (you are not truly a reseller in the case of vps). If you go with traditional reseller plan the job of managing servers falls to parent company.
The HG resource offering will probably be fine for the typical website. 99.9% of your sites will be less than 500mb and half of them will probably not be using any bandwidth to speak of.

The need to ask that question leads me to conclude that the reseller package would suit you best
A vps is like having your own server. Your provider will not manage/administer the vps for you (unless maybe he offers a billable service for that).

He could very well pick up a managed VPS and then he wouldnt have to worry so much about admin stuff.

You may pay more for a fully managed VPS compared to a reseller plan, however I believe it is worth it if you care about quality. You won't need to worry about other reseller abuse and you should be in total control over everything (with them to handle anything you need help with).

I've been using hostgator reseller hosting for 4 years, and haven't had any downtime. But during the time, I had to switch to different servers three times, due to the servers got a lot slower after 1-2 years. So, that's one thing I don't like about the shared reseller hosting.

Won't include real management or administration -- he is going to have web, dns, email and database servers to manage not to mention control panel and other software. "Managed services" is not server management or administration.

Hmm, not sure how you can make a blanket statement like that. There are plenty of managed providers who will look after his VPS and do all the things he doesnt want to. While they might not be the most affordable, they are out there.
