DirectAdmin and cPanel are both compatible with Linux OS. cPanel is compatible with Linux operating systems only.

When you purchase a dedicated server you have the freedom to choose your own OS and control panel if the provider offers it.

If you're going to use Directadmin or cPanel, use Linux. You'll be able to install vBulletin and phpBB by downloading the files and uploading them via FTP or through Fantastico (for cPanel at least). And seeing as how you don't seem too experienced with it, you may want to look at managed hosting. Are you sure that you'll need a dedicated server?

Accessing a linux server via putty is easy if you know linux commands
I don't know any other windows software to access SSH, but I don't use Windows so there might be others...
As you've been told, cPanel is only for Linux, not windows

Hello There & Welcome to the community

DirectAdmin & cPanel are basically control panels to control your hosting/reseller/vps/dedicated server (Making it more functional) and thus making the server to be able to be used. There are other alternatives to these such as Vloxo (Formerly known as LXAdmin) & Webmin << both free. ect...

But cPanel & DirectAdmin i would have to say are the best of the bunch.

If you need any more help MSN me or PM me.

    Many Thanks,

I have used both DirectAdmin, and cPanel. Both are great control panels for controlling most aspects of your servers websites. cPanel comes with WHM though on a dedicated server and will allow for a little more control on server side things. DirectAdmin is a bit more simple but works well still.

Someone mentioned Fantastico as a software that can help with installing scripts and such on the server, but you may also want to check out Installatron in my opinion Installatron is a bit better than Fantastico.

CPanel and Directadmin are both Linux OS control panels. What they do is make administration easier and safer.

CPanel is used widely in the market for Shared Hosting and Reseller hosting.

With lower pricing for DA, it is becoming an option for single Site users.

I have seem a lot of hosting companies using CPanel for hosting business, and DA being used by individual users for say 1-10 sites in their own server.
