mod_gzip installed but not enabled site wide?
I've recently upgrade to PHP 5.2.10 and have installed mod_gzip along with it. Everything seems to be working wonderfully and when I go to http://www.gidnetwork.com/tools/gzip-test.php to test and see if mod_gzip is installed it reports back as YES, the web page is compressed for my base domain (http://www.mydomain.com)
However when I test with http://www.mydomain.com/forum it reports back that the web page is not compressed.
I've tried turning on and off the GZIP options built into vBulletin but this has no effect on the outcome.
Is there a corresponding .htaccess file requirement for vbulliten?
No, vBulletin doesn't require a .htaccess file.
Add this in your .htaccess file at www.domain.com/.htaccess
It seems to work for me.
BrowserMatch ^Mozilla/4 gzip-only-text/html
BrowserMatch ^Mozilla/4\.0 no-gzip
BrowserMatch \bMSIE !no-gzip !gzip-only-text/html
