    * Left 4 Dead 2 banned in Australia

THE sequel to a popular video game has been banned in Australia after failing to receive a rating of MA15+.

Left 4 Dead 2 was refused classification by the Classifications Board this week, meaning it will be banned from sale.

In its report the board said the game, due to be released in November, contained "realistic, frenetic and unrelenting violence".

"The game contains violence that is high in impact and is therefore unsuitable for persons under 18 years to play," the report said.

Not to encurage breaking the law, but do customs check the rating of a game if you ordered it from another country online?

On a side note, the next game they are going to ban will be a too realistic military game because they will think it will discourage recruitment when young kids get to much of a "real" feeling of dying in war and lose the thought that they are invincible.

Wow... just... wow. I've never heard of a Country banning a game before.

If you ask me, TV, games, etc it has nothing to do with how a kid turns out. All about the parenting and if they know that what they doing / watching is real or not.

Crazy stuff! I'll send you a copy in the mail

    That's even more illegal

You should just buy the game anyway, it's not going to be checked through customs unless it's ticking and smells of almonds or marzipan

Might think differently after reading the story of the kid who killed his parents because he got so addicted to halo and they limited his play time. Sometimes kids are mentally unstable and parents can not control that. Maybe we should put a "mental illness" rating on games?

This isn't the first time Australia has banned a fantastic game, they banned FALLOUT 3 last year which is the best post apocalyptic rpg game of all times IMO.

They must have unbanned it because I saw it in a store yesterday for the PS3.

Tons of games have been banned all over. I remember waiting on Thrill Kill years back for the PSX. Man I was pissed when it was canceled just weeks before release. I ended up with a "almost" full tech copy a few years later but still... damn you Nancy Regan!

Won't they be selling it on Steam also? You could probably just buy it through there and download it, right?

I'm really looking forward to L4D 2 though, it's going to be really cool. I want to chainsaw some zombies.

You are just proving his point. Kid in that story did not just get addicted overnight - it was a process which his parents allowed to get to the point where it got.

Btw, I played through L4D in coop mode with my 11 year old son.

Parents are the ones that should be controlling what games or movies their kids play or watch. It shouldn't be for the government to decide.. parents should be plugged in enough to know what their kids can or can't deal with, and actually care enough to enforce it.

Millions of people play first person shooters and don't go out and kill anyone.

OH... wow darkeden... Manhunt. I had actually completely forgot about that game. A friend of mine picked it up back in the day and we sat in amazement when we saw the level of violence.

pphillips, I agree. Let the parents control it. HOWEVER, some parents are incapable of this

I play COD4 on the PS3 in the home cinema with my boys. If only I had a keyboard and mouse, I'd stop getting owned. Can't use the PS3 controller for FPS games.

But why isn't Left 4 Dead 1 banned? Left 4 Dead 2 doesn't seem to be more violent than the old one. Atleast in gameplay videos, it's same old zombie killing.

It's true, I love when game makers and shows like Family Guy point out the responsibility of the parent to monitor their childrens habits.

But on the flip, what one parent may not allow, little Jimmy can run to little Phil's house and his parents don't care.

An hour or so of some good old fashioned zombie killing is a great stress relief. Nothing beats blowing the heads off zombies with the trusty shot gun.
