rackspace cloud reseller?

Are there any companys that would allow you to resell cloud space * the could setup gogrid or rackspace uses*

that can use private nameservers etc? Last I checked rackspace you can resell but the nameservers have to be theres and you cant have your own.

Rackspace have set up from the get-go to provide a space for resellers - hence all of the largely white label domains used in their system. They can also provide end-user support, but you have to pay extra for this.

You can get a cloud server from a provider such as Rackspace.
Then you can create and setup your own name servers on your cloud server or somewhere else. Name servers and your web/mail servers can be together or separated.

Just I'm clear we're all talking about the same thing here. Rackspace has three main cloud based service offerings:
  • Cloud Servers - xen based pay as you go VPS servers, how exactly these differ from Slicehost, which Rackspace bought a while back, I'm unsure - besides the fact that Rackspace offers hourly / daily / monthly billing and Slicehost appears at first glance to offer only monthly billing.
  • Cloud Files - file storage in the cloud, similar to Amazon S3
  • Cloud Sites - the old mosso.com platform which Rackspace also bought a while back.

Assuming we're talking about Cloud Sites (which would make sense as the entry level, and only, price point is $100 / month, thus making it a desirable service to purchase re-sold account from) - the answer is yes. The platform is basically set up to be one giant reseller account from the beginning with Rackspace offering to support third party (read: resold) accounts for a monthly fee and also to bill those third parties for another additional monthly fee.

I am sure that there are many cloud sites / mosso resellers but the one that I am familar with is:

laughingsquid.net - they've actually setup a new site for their cloud sites offering over at laughingsquid.us and it appears they're so impressed with it that they're phasing out their old hosting offering (plesk based shared accounts on dedicated servers at rackspace) and focusing solely on reselling the cloud sites platform.

I would say either use Rackspace, hosting.com, or Artisan Infrastructure.

You're right. Getting 15% on retail is way better.

I tend to hear good things about Rackspace.

However, doesn't seem like a fantastic deal if you have to use their nameservers.

Hi, I resold rackspace cloud sites for 9 months, i was with them pretty much from the beginning of their product. I eventually got so fed up with their pitiful support and constant downtime that I left.

My issues were that it was really slow, there were a lot of peculiarities with how it served pages, and whenever their were problems, they blamed it on "my coding", even for things like out-of-the-box wordpress installs.

For a reseller, their end-user control panel is very spartan, and your customers WILL not like it. The product is more designed for programmers or web designers who need to provide only basic access to their customers, i.e. FTP and DB access.

It may fit your needs depending on what you want. But if you're looking to resell a full-service webservice through them, you'll want to look elsewhere.

I've actually switched over to an hsphere platform. Its old-ish software now, but it works better than single-server cpanel environments, imo.

Seems like this is the case for alot of different companies, Namely Rackspace, and Amazon's EC2. I don't know how many people have complained to me about there 70% uptime at Amazon. Only heard a few complains about Rackspace. Not as many as Amazon.

I heard Rackspaces panel was dreadful tho.

Looks like a 9 month question - but the thread continues. I suppose some issues and questions are evergreen.

Some of our customers use Rackspace cloud servers and we support them. They seem fine. The control panel user interface can be customized, if one needs to.

Cheers!

When you say reseller cloud space what exactly are you looking for? Just space to design and build your own application? Or something more like traditional web hosting service (Ie: cpanel) but on cloud?

If you are interested in Rackspacecloud.com, I am in the process of developing a full reseller interface using their API.

It will allow your customers to purchase / manage their servers under your single RS account.

Let me know if you want in on the testing.

Great. In fact we built a full reseller interface with the Rackspace Cloud interface some time back. In case anyone is interested wrt that, please contacts us. It is fully functional.

Cheers!
