    Question SEO and CSS stylesheets

What does everyone think, scratch that, KNOW about CSS rule names and SEO? Good, bad, indifferent?

I've been doing a lot of research, but I want some input for the WHT community.

Generally well put together, CSS, sites with a better code to content ratio, get a very minimalistic advnatage over a traditonal table, or verbosley coded site.

It make as difference but its minute.

As the arrangement of CSS does not really matter, some say use CSS to get your content near the top but unless its a very big page it should not matter

^ Where did you get that information? My information shows otherwise.

I'm gonna have to ask this question at SitePoint. I was just hoping for a few answers here.

Matt Cutts has mentioned previously that they (Google) do not care whether a site is a CSS or table layout. I will try to find the video if needed.

Tables are essentially gone now. has replaced it and done a fairly good job.

I haven't seen anything anywhere where style sheets have ever mattered. Also, if they do, I couldn't tell you becuase I have good optimization on several sites, and none of the style sheets have any kind of conformity whatsoever.

So now, becuase you raised this good question, I will have to add this my research list.

    Hey Guys,

I'm not asking about layout. I'm specifically asking about whether Google prefers descriptive css id names.

For instance I have a motorcycle website

    < div id = " engines " >
    content content content
    < / div >

Would Google read the word engines? YES OR NO

I don't think there is much value, if any, in CSS element names. Since Matt Cutts himself has mentioned there are no advantages of CSS layouts versus table layouts, why would there be value in element names?

Yh as all mentioned CSS or without it.. not much effecting.. But now almost templates are without table, position of the sites element is fully managed by style sheet.. Almost HTML tags are ignored....

I believe the search engine will only read the displayed text on the site (ie: what your visitors can read).

I'm not 100% sure, although it would make sense for google not to record the name of a div tag as that could also throw the site completely off balance in term of it's searchable content.

No they won't. You'll get no benefit what so ever.
