8 GB RAM, a Quad Core, some SAS or Raptor drive will do.

Optimize it well and you can stay on that server for a very long time!

I suggest looking at a quad core machine, SQL can be a bugger sometimes, and you would need the horsepower, another thing is at least 4Gb of ram,
also try looking into SSD based machines, they are awsome for databases.

Are you sure??
I had a forum that was getting more than 300-400 users at a time and I was fine with a hybrid VPS. (with 2 GB Ram) (I sold the forum 3 months ago)

I think, the key factor will be how you optimize your DB and Script. what kind of plugins/Mods you are using. Try to reduce the number of queries by disabling things that are not necessary.

Even an Atom server can handle it.

Vbulletin with 200 users.....
A good VPS would do that.
Probably looking at in the $60 a month range.
You can always move up from there if need be.

I think a good managed VPS could handle that much traffic you are expecting. You can try to search a good reliable managed VPS provider in the VPS offer section of this forum.

Core2Quad, 2GB RAM would be enough at this time.

You can get it with within $100 to $120 / mo.
