As a reseller what are your thoughts on the new ICANN agreement?

Just curious what all your thoughts on the new agreement is. Although some of it doesn't affect us directly as resellers but some do affect us, such as this one:

Resellers shall identify the sponsoring registrar, or provide a means for identifying the sponsoring registrar, such as a link to the InterNIC Whois lookup service. Any registration agreement used by Resellers shall include all registration agreement provisions and notices required by the ICANN RAA and any ICANN Consensus Policies.
The agreement can be found here: http://www.icann.org/en/registrars/r...21may09-en.htm

The agreement is long, so not sure what else would affect us, but just curious what other peoples feelings and thoughts about the agreement are.

I already notify customers, its only fair. Why would you want to pass yourself off as the registrar? I've never had any problems from customers, and in fact by identifying the registrar (if it is large) it may inspire them to trust you a bit more.

Well sometimes letting them know that you are a reseller and there is a larger company out there is a bad thing. Such as if you are reselling enom or godaddy or any large providers, there is really no way you can beat their already low prices unless you buy in bulk.

So announcing that you are a reseller can defiantly hurt your sales from what I assume. The domain name biz is so difficult, I rarely recommend our customers to resell domains rather than just have their customers buy domains and host it with them.

If you are a "reseller" as a business, then you should be prepared to justify your cost structure and choice of supplier regardless of what industry you are in.

It is only a matter of time before the customer "finds out" you're a reseller...

.. But if you can justify your cost, then they won't care. ie: if you're more expensive then your parent company.. then why? If you add value in some way, then explain it.

Otherwise.. you're not a very smart business owner.
