    Question Fill in the blank...

    The hosting industry is a $___ per year industry.

    With all the research I do on the industry, this is a very big question that I have not been able to get an accurate answer for. I'm looking for a nice, big, all encompassing number. Enlighten me, WHT.

    This has some solid figures, but I'm wondering if it would be accurate since it is so old. It's a hard number to pinpoint.

    Sorry, but there is no way on earth that there are more then 100 million internet hosts in America.

    Unless I'm misinterpreting what you were trying to say, those figures are dead wrong.

    That would mean 1/4 Americans own some sort of internet service providers.

    If I were to give a general estimate as to how many hosts there are in the entire world, I would say no more then 35,000 - 50,000.

    Well, mooseweb, I read it on the internet...and even found a pretty picture! It has to be true! /sarcasm

    Who said you have to be American or in the US to run a US based internet house (Internet Hosts - Such a broad term) Hehe.

    I see it as ranging through;
    • Web hosting service
    • E-mail hosting service
    • DNS hosting service
    • Game servers
    • Virtual private server
    • Dedicated hosting service

    As well, I know where to get my facts.
    CIA World Fact Book - Country Comparison :: Internet hosts

    ...interesting though..
    United States = 316,000,000
    Iraq = 3
    ...

    That map is awesome. I find it funny that Antarctica has 0-100 hosting providers. Don't the penguins need internet?

    But as an answer to your question:
    IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAND!
    On a more serious note, it's probably in the dozens of billions as most businesses operate on line and the industry encompasses a lot of sub industries as well.
